In a passionate appeal to the electorates, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, running mate to former President John Dramani Mahama, has called on Ghanaians to use the upcoming December 7 general elections to “reset” the country’s trajectory.

She stressed the need to move Ghana away from the perceived stagnation, corruption, and poor governance under the current New Patriotic Party administration led by President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and toward a future defined by jobs, women empowerment, and national progress.

“We have the option to reset this country. It is not going to be a joke, it is not going to be a child’s game, but we either reset or sink further. The choice is ours. Ghana is on its knees under Akufo-Addo/Bawumia Leadership”.

Addressing professional groups including university lecturers, lawyers, and nursing trainees during her campaign tour of the Bono Region, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang made a compelling case for why Ghanaians should entrust their future to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

She said the upcoming election represents a critical moment for Ghanaians to take charge of their destiny. Prof. Opoku-Agyemang lamented the state of the nation since the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government assumed office in 2017.

According to her, the country is “broke” and suffering from an economic downturn, with widespread poverty and limited opportunities for the youth.

She accused the current New Patriotic Party administration of failing to deliver on its promises, noting that water bodies are heavily polluted, governance standards have deteriorated, and corruption has flourished under President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s administration.

She further criticized the government’s mismanagement of resources, which she claims has left key sectors, including health and education, in dire straits.

For Prof. Opoku-Agyemang, the NPP’s eight-year rule has been a “lesson in failed leadership,” and the upcoming election provides an opportunity for Ghanaians to demand change.

The Role of Professionals and Students

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang did not limit her message to political promises but urged Ghanaians to think critically about the country’s future.

Addressing her audience of professionals, she called on academics, health workers, students, and the general public to play an active role in bringing about change by voting for the National Democratic Congress.

“The campus should be the only place where they should be honest enough about what they believe in and explain it using logic. And it shouldn’t be because of where I come from, and as for us, that is how we vote. When this comes from students, when that comes from academic staff, it’s a pity”.

She underscored the importance of thoughtful, issue-based voting rather than blind allegiance to political parties based on ethnic or regional affiliations.

NDC Promises Jobs, Welfare, and Inclusive Progress

Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang assured Ghanaians that under the leadership of former President John Dramani Mahama, the National Democratic Congress is committed to addressing the challenges facing the nation.

She highlighted the National Democratic Congress’s vision to create jobs, particularly for the youth, while providing opportunities for all citizens, regardless of their background.

“The NDC is ready to lead Ghana toward a brighter future. We will create jobs, ensure inclusive growth, and put the welfare of the people at the heart of our policies,” she promised.

She added that women’s empowerment would be central to the NDC’s agenda, noting that Ghana needs a government that is truly committed to promoting the welfare of all its citizens and not just a select few.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s message underscored the growing number of Ghanaians disillusioned by the current government.

Her call to “reset” the nation reflects the mood of many who feel that the country has drifted too far from its potential under the leadership of President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Bawumia.

She emphasized that the December 7 polls offer a clear choice for all Ghanaians to make a choice between continuing on the path of stagnation and corruption or charting a new course toward jobs, progress, and better governance with the NDC.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang concluded, “The choice is ours, and we must choose wisely.”
