Joyce Bawah Mogtari on Mahama's big push to improve road network

Joyce Bawah Mogtari

Joyce Bawah Mogtari, the spokesperson for John Mahama, has accused the ruling NPP of failing to address several critical issues as Ghana nears the December 7 election.

According to Bawah, these include the extensive misappropriation and exploitation of public funds, as well as numerous corruption allegations involving the party, President Akufo-Addo, and Vice President Bawumia.

She indicated that despite these serious accusations, the NPP continues to shift focus by attacking and criticizing members of the NDC, displaying a disregard for accountability and transparency in governance.

This tactic, the NDC stalwart noted, highlights their reluctance to confront their own record while attempting to undermine their political opponents.

“Considering the unprecedented level of hardship, poverty and unemployment just imagine how these humongous sums of money could be distributed to support the good people of Ghana. This election is not about the NDC, it is about the good people of Ghana”.

Bawah further stated that John Mahama, the NDC flagbearer, has committed to launching Operation Recover All Loots (O.R.A.L), an initiative aimed at combating corruption and financial mismanagement.

She revealed that through this operation, Mahama intends to thoroughly investigate cases of misappropriated public funds and stolen assets, prosecute those involved, and recover resources that have been unlawfully taken.

According to Bawah, this initiative demonstrates Mahama’s dedication to restoring accountability and integrity in Ghana’s public institutions.

The NDC communicator noted that the initiative also aims to ensure that taxpayer funds are used transparently and effectively for the benefit of all Ghanaians.

She further noted that the NDC intends to thoroughly investigate the $58 million spent on the National Cathedral project.

Bawah emphasized that, despite this significant expenditure, there has been little to show for it, with administrators continuing to draw salaries without delivering tangible results.

This raises concerns about accountability and transparency in the management of public funds, particularly when the project has faced delays and criticism.

The NDC aims to uncover the specifics of how the funds were allocated and used, ensuring that those responsible for any mismanagement are held accountable.

NDC to Investigate Contract to President’s Daughters

Furthermore, Joyce Bawah Mogtari announced that the NDC will conduct an investigation into the $34 million sole-source contract awarded to a company owned by President Nana Addo’s daughters.

This contract has raised eyebrows due to its exclusive nature and the potential for favoritism in government procurement processes.

Additionally, the NDC plans to scrutinize the inflated $100 million GRA-SML deal, which has been criticized for its excessive costs and lack of transparency.

Mogtari emphasized that these investigations are crucial for ensuring accountability in government spending and restoring public trust in the management of taxpayer funds.

The NDC is committed to uncovering the facts behind these deals and holding those responsible accountable for any misuse of public resources.

“[The NDC will investigate and recover] Millions of dollars and cedis found at the home of Cecilia Dapaah 5.37% haircut to pensioners and Individuals money ( first in the history of Ghana).

“We are still waiting for Bawumia to respond to the 170 or so questions he posed to Former VP Amissah Arthur in 2016. They are now even more valid today”.

Bawah also highlighted that Ghanaians should not overlook the $11.9 million spent on the Pwalugu Dam project, which has produced little to no visible progress.

She expressed concern that despite the significant investment of public funds, the project has failed to deliver the anticipated benefits, such as improved irrigation and energy generation.

This lack of progress raises questions about the management and accountability surrounding the project, prompting calls for greater transparency in how public resources are allocated and utilized.

Bawah emphasized the importance of holding officials accountable for the apparent mismanagement of funds, ensuring that taxpayer money is used effectively for projects that genuinely benefit the Ghanaian people.
