Bawumia to Engage Ghanaian Youth to Unveil Job Creation Plan

Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Presidential Candidate, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has expressed a confident stance, dismissing speculations that his administration, if elected, would be subject to external influences, particularly from outgoing President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Addressing a gathering of young Ghanaians at an engagement at the Borteyman Sports Complex dubbed “Bawumia for Jobs”,  Dr Bawumia stressed that his leadership would be characterized by independence, innovation, and a clear vision focused on technological advancement and job creation.

In a move aimed at quelling concerns about the continuity of the current administration’s policies, Dr Bawumia clarified that his leadership would be distinct, shaped by his priorities and guided by a vision for a self-sufficient and data-driven Ghana.

“I have my vision and priority. Given the opportunity by you, the people of Ghana, to lead, I shall govern as my own man with guidance from God Almighty.

“My vision is to build an inclusive, food self-sufficient, job-generating, data-driven, and system-based nation that will fully participate in the global digital revolution.”

Addressing widespread rumours, Dr Bawumia directly countered suggestions that President Akufo-Addo would maintain control over his administration, should he become president.

By distancing himself from such claims, Dr Bawumia emphasized his intent to lead with autonomy, promising to bring fresh strategies to Ghana’s governance.

Central to his campaign message was a vision of an advanced Ghana where technology is leveraged to drive sustainable economic growth.

He described plans to establish a “data-driven nation” that would employ technological solutions to foster job creation, streamline public services, and facilitate effective governance.

“My vision,” he said, “is for Ghana to harness the digital revolution to solve our problems and usher in a golden age of benefits from our natural resources.”

Empowering Youth Through Job Creation and Economic Opportunities

In his remarks, Dr. Bawumia underscored the importance of empowering Ghana’s youth as a cornerstone of his proposed economic policy.

Acknowledging the high youth unemployment rates and economic challenges facing the country, he assured the audience that youth empowerment would be central to his agenda.

“I want to lead a nation that improves and unleashes the talents of our youth and offers good jobs with good pay and sustainable growth with macroeconomic discipline,” he pledged. He went on to outline bold plans for job creation, with an emphasis on youth entrepreneurship and industrialization as key drivers.

Dr. Bawumia’s approach, he said, would involve policies to encourage entrepreneurship and foster a supportive business environment that would benefit both new and existing enterprises.

His commitment, he stated, is to “transform Ghana by building on the economic recovery we are witnessing, through bold business-friendly policy initiatives from January 2025, designed to stimulate significant economic activities.”

Vision for a New Economic Era

Dr. Bawumia noted that his plans are geared toward creating millions of jobs, through a combination of pro-business reforms, industrial development, and digital innovation.

These reforms, set to begin in January 2025, would serve as a “catalyst for job creation,” with specific strategies to promote entrepreneurship, support emerging industries, and encourage sustainable development.

He promised that his initiatives would create the “large pool of diverse jobs that young Ghanaians desire and deserve.” Dr. Bawumia urged the youth of Ghana to join him in building a prosperous future. “Together, let us build a brighter, more prosperous future for every Ghanaian,” he declared, rallying his audience toward a collective vision.

With the 2024 general elections looming, Dr. Bawumia’s address signals a critical moment in his campaign.  His emphasis on independence, data-driven governance, and youth empowerment showcases a leader eager to distinguish himself from past administrations while building on existing policies in a modernized and inclusive manner.

The youth-focused agenda resonates amid Ghana’s evolving economic landscape, underscoring a potential shift toward technological and industrial reform that Dr. Bawumia asserts will usher in a “golden age” for the country.
