Former President John Dramani Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) 2024 Presidential Candidate, has voiced his strong condemnation of what he described as the neglect of key development projects in several communities in the Central Region due to partisan politics.

His remarks came during a weekend engagement in communities such as Ekumfi, Brakwa, and Ajumako Besease, where local chiefs echoed widespread frustrations over stalled progress and unmet development needs.

In addressing the people, the National Democratic Congress flagbearer and leader highlighted that President Nana Akufo-Addo himself had previously acknowledged the impact of such partisan-driven neglect.

“It pains me to see our cherished communities grappling with the neglect of crucial development projects vital for their growth and well-being”, he stated, underscoring the pervasive sense of disenfranchisement felt by residents in the region.

According to the former President, this situation is a glaring injustice that compromises the well-being and future prospects of countless Ghanaians, particularly young people and families striving for sustainable livelihoods.

“The words uttered by the chiefs in Ekumfi, Brakwa, and Ajumako Besease on Saturday echoed the frustrations of many—young people, families and households—who deserve better infrastructure, healthcare, education, and opportunities for sustainable livelihoods.

He pointed out that the failure to address such needs amounts to punishing citizens for their democratic choices.

Ethical Responsibility, and the Heart of Governance

The National Democratic Congress 2024 Presidential Candidate, former President John Dramani Mahama’s critique also touched on the heart of governance and ethical responsibility, urging that no community should be sidelined because of its political affiliation or voting history.

“How does a government ignore the needs of the people it governs, seemingly punishing communities for their democratic choices in voting for the NDC and electing its parliamentary candidates?”

For Mahama, this goes beyond political rivalry and touches on fundamental principles of justice and accountability. “Every citizen, regardless of their political allegiance, deserves to have their voices heard and their needs addressed,” he emphasized.

Promising a different approach, former President Mahama reiterated his commitment to inclusive and non-partisan development should he return to office.

Drawing on his previous tenure as President, he reminded the gathering of his administration’s focus on holistic development. “As I have done before when I was president and will lead this country to achieve again, development shall be a right for all, not a privilege for a few,” he declared.

He underscored the vision of his partnership with running mate Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, vowing that under their leadership, the NDC would ensure that no community is overlooked or marginalized.

This latest tour in the Central Region forms part of Mahama’s broader campaign strategy, which focuses on engaging directly with communities to understand their challenges and aspirations.

The former President’s promise to bridge the development divide underscores the belief and the principle that governance transcends political boundaries and prioritizes the collective welfare of all citizens.

His message signals a call for unity and an appeal for voters to support a leadership that pledges not just promises but actionable change.
