The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has expressed disapproval of the comments made by one of its Communicators, Edem Dela, against former President John Agyekum Kufuor.

The party described the remarks as unsavory and distasteful.

In a statement signed by the NDC’s National Communications Officer, Sammy Adu Gyamfi, the party emphasized that it is pleased to note that the individual involved has since retracted his statements.

The NDC further highlighted that Edem Dela has offered a sincere and unreserved apology to the esteemed former President for his inappropriate comments.

“The attention of the National Communications Bureau of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has been drawn to some unfortunate comments attributed to one of its members, Comrade Dela Edem, and directed at the person of former President and elderly statesman, H.E. John Agyekum Kufour”.

The NDC also expressed its full support for the apology, hoping that the retraction and sincere apology will bring a resolution and closure to the matter.

The party emphasized that it values maintaining unity and respect within the political discourse.

In addition, the NDC reiterated its unwavering commitment to upholding the dignity of the elderly in society and honoring the contributions of statesmen like former President Kufuor.

As a party, the NDC believes that mutual respect, especially for those who have served the nation, is essential for fostering a culture of integrity and civility in public life.

Meanwhile, in a Facebook post, Edem Dela offered a heartfelt and unreserved apology to former President Kufuor for the comments he made regarding his “wheelchair.”

He acknowledged the mistake and expressed sincere regret for his words.

Dela also thanked Ghanaians for their attention and constructive criticism, recognizing the importance of being corrected when errors are made.

He appreciated the feedback, which helped him understand the flaws in his earlier remarks.

NDC Urges Communicators to Champion Mahama’s Vision

Moreover, the NDC urged all its communicators to remain dedicated to advocating for the transformative policies championed by H.E. John Dramani Mahama, a visionary leader who has consistently worked toward the progress and development of the nation.

The party emphasized that it is crucial for all members to focus on conveying the positive changes and achievements under Mahama’s leadership, as well as the future vision for Ghana.

By doing so, the NDC aims to rally support and secure a decisive victory in the upcoming general elections on December 7th, 2024, ensuring a brighter future for all Ghanaians.

“Having said this, the NDC wishes to caution the media to be on high alert for purveyors of fake news. It has become the modus operandi of some functionaries and hirelings of the New Patriotic Party to manufacture and disseminate fake news and malicious publications calculated to mislead the Ghanaian public”.

The NDC also pointed out that as the elections draw nearer, a number of unscrupulous operatives within the NPP have been ramping up their mischievous activities.

These individuals, the NDC stated, seem to be resorting to underhanded tactics and deceitful strategies in an attempt to sway public opinion and undermine the integrity of the electoral process.

The party expressed concern that such actions are intended to create confusion and disillusionment among voters, and it emphasized the need for vigilance to ensure a free, fair, and transparent election.

The opposition party emphasized that individuals involved in these activities, including certain well-known NPP communicators and Presidential staffers, should not go unchecked.

It called on the media to play a crucial role in exposing their actions and holding them accountable.

The party further insisted that those responsible must face the full extent of the law for their misconduct, as such behavior undermines the integrity of the electoral process and threatens the democratic values of the nation.
