New Force Secures Landmark Victory Against Ghana at ECOWAS Court

The New Force has announced a significant legal victory as the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Court of Justice has ruled in its favor in a human rights violations case against the Republic of Ghana.

This case involved the party’s spokesperson, Shalimar Abbiusi, highlighting critical concerns over fundamental human rights protections.

In a statement, the New Force emphasized that the ruling affirms its unwavering commitment to justice, accountability, and the rule of law within a democratic framework.

The party expressed gratitude to the ECOWAS Court for upholding the principles of fairness and impartiality, reinforcing the need for nations to respect human rights and adhere to legal and constitutional mandates.

“The New Force is pleased to announce a significant victory following the recent ruling by the ECOWAS Court, which confirmed that the Republic of Ghana violated the rights of our spokesperson, Shalimar Abbiusi.

“The court’s decision comes after a series of unlawful actions were taken against Ms. Abbuisi, including her wrongful arrest and subsequent rearrest by the Ghana Immigration Service”.

The New Force further highlighted the profound consequences of the unlawful actions, stating that they inflicted considerable harm on Shalimar Abbiusi’s personal and professional reputation.

This not only tarnished her standing but also underscored the severity of the injustice she endured.

According to New Force, the impact of these violations extended beyond the immediate harm, affecting Abbiusi’s credibility, career prospects, and emotional well-being.

The party emphasized that such actions undermine the principles of fairness and accountability that are fundamental to any democratic society.

The New Force further lamented that, despite the State Prosecutor dropping all charges against Ms. Abbiusi, she was subjected to unlawful detention and subsequently faced an immediate and illegal deportation.

This sequence of events, the party noted, exemplifies a deeply concerning abuse of power by government officials.

The party further expressed alarm over what it described as a deliberate attempt to suppress political dissent and silence voices critical of the government.

According to New Force, such actions not only violate individual rights but also erode democratic principles by fostering a culture of intimidation and fear.

ECOWAS Court Orders Ghana to Compensate for Rights Violation

Furthermore, the New Force revealed that the ECOWAS Court has determined that the rearrest and unlawful deportation of Ms. Abbiusi constituted a violation of Article 6, which guarantees the liberty of individuals.

According to the party, the court has subsequently ordered the Ghanaian government to provide compensation for this breach of her rights.

“Hon. Francis-Xavier Sosu, ESQ, who appeared with Lawyer Belinda Narkey Quaynor, thanked the Court and said he ‘feels vindicated that the ECOWAS Court has protected the rights of Shalimar’.

“The New Force is dedicated to ensuring that laws are upheld fairly across all African nations, advocating for the rights of individuals regardless of their background. We urge the Ghanaian government to respect human rights and uphold the rule of law, as guaranteed by our Constitution”.

The New Force contended that the actions taken against Ms. Abbiusi highlight a deeper issue of political persecution, which poses a significant threat to the principles of democracy in Ghana.

Moving forward, the party reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to advocating for transparency and accountability within government institutions, ensuring they serve the best interests of all citizens.

The New Force, therefore, called on civil society organizations, human rights advocates, and the international community to stand in solidarity by condemning these egregious violations.

The party urged these groups to actively support initiatives aimed at fostering meaningful reforms in Ghana’s governance systems.

Such collaboration, it stressed, is vital to safeguarding human rights, promoting democratic values, and ensuring justice for all citizens. “Together, we can foster a future where every individual’s rights are respected and protected”.
