Stan Dogbe slams retaliatory politics claims

Stan Xoese Dogbe

Stan Xoese Dogbe, Special Aide to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, has expressed deep concern over what he describes as an unparalleled campaign of misinformation in Ghana’s political history.

According to Dogbe, the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has engaged in a relentless dissemination of falsehoods, which, in his view, exceeds all acceptable bounds of decency in a democratic society.

Dogbe lamented that the sheer volume and frequency of the alleged lies from the NPP have reached unprecedented levels, tarnishing the principles of fair political discourse.

He criticized the ruling party for prioritizing propaganda and fabrications over substantive governance and policy discussions, thereby undermining public trust in the political process.

“After failing to lead and govern the country decently, bringing us untold hardship, corruption, and poor development, they believe they can convince you that reality differs from what you know and experience. They’ve tried to make you believe day is night and night is day”.

Stan Dogbe further cautioned that in the final days leading up to the elections, the NPP is likely to intensify its campaign of misinformation and resort to even more desperate measures to sway public opinion.

He predicted that the ruling party would “bring out the worst in themselves,” engaging in tactics that undermine the integrity of the democratic process.

Dogbe urged Ghanaians not to be swayed by what he described as baseless propaganda and deliberate falsehoods.

Instead, he encouraged citizens to remain focused on the realities of their daily struggles under the current administration.

He emphasized the importance of voting during the December 2024 elections as a means of holding leaders accountable for their actions and policies.

Highlighting the economic difficulties, unemployment, and rising cost of living that many citizens face, Dogbe called on voters to let their experiences guide their decisions at the ballot box.

Dogbe further encouraged all eligible voters to participate in the electoral process peacefully and decisively. “Vote with the harsh reality you’ve lived through, not the fabricated reality presented by the NPP”.

EC Refutes Claims of Separate Voting Dates for Presidential Candidates

Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission has refuted claims by media personality Oheneba Nana Asiedu, allegedly linked to the NPP, regarding separate voting dates for presidential candidates in the 2024 general elections.

In a statement signed by Samuel Tettey Deputy Chairman, Operations, the Commission firmly reiterated that the 2024 general election is set for December 7, 2024, as initially announced.

“The Electoral Commission has taken note of a misleading broadcast by a presenter on Wontumi TV claiming that there would be different voting dates for some Presidential Candidates in the December 7 General Election. The Electoral Commission urges the Public to disregard the misleading statements”.

The Commission further reminded voters that polling for the 2024 general election will take place on December 7, 2024, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The EC  urged all eligible voters to turn out in large numbers to exercise their democratic rights.

The Commission stressed the importance of conducting themselves in a peaceful and orderly manner at the polling stations to ensure the smooth and efficient process of voting for all.

The Electoral Commission emphasized that the 2024 election is a crucial opportunity for the public to shape the nation’s future.

It highlighted that this election represents not just a vote, but a vital moment for citizens to influence the direction of the country in the years to come.

Significantly, many political analysts and commentators have raised concerns about the rising tide of misinformation ahead of the December 2024 elections.

Notably, Franklin Cudjoe of IMANI Africa openly criticized this trend, urging the Electoral Commission to take stronger action in educating the public and countering these falsehoods.
