The Member of Parliament-Elect for Gomoa Central Constituency, Kwame Asare Obeng, has called on President-Elect John Dramani Mahama to respond to Ghanaians’ needs following his historic victory in the December 7, 2024 general elections.

The vociferous Member of Parliament-Elect, in an open letter, extended his heartfelt congratulations to President-Elect John Dramani Mahama, commending him on his triumphant return to Ghana’s highest office.

“You have journeyed a long and winding road, and your victory is not just a testament to your political prowess but a reflection of the trust and hope that Ghanaians have placed in you.

“Your Excellency, this letter will not be burdened with advice, for if there is a man whose life has been a masterclass in leadership and resilience, it is you. You are, without question, Ghana’s luckiest and most experienced statesman”.

He noted that President-Elect Mahama’s early days as a three-term Member of Parliament to hold the roles of Deputy Minister, full Minister, Vice President, and President affords him a “tapestry of rich experience.”

He pointed out that Mahama’s resilience has been unwavering even after his electoral defeat and subsequent eight years in opposition, culminating in his recent victory.

Kwame Asare Obeng’s letter lauded President-Elect Mahama as Ghana’s “luckiest and most experienced statesman,” whose political journey exemplifies leadership, perseverance, and resilience.

Call for Unity Beyond Partisan Lines

The Gomoa Central Member of Parliament-Elect’s tone shifted to underscore a broader message of unity and national focus, reminding President-Elect Mahama of the diverse and discerning citizens he now represents.

“Ghana is larger than any political party, and pleasing its diverse and discerning citizens is a task as arduous as killing a mosquito sucking blood on the testicle. Yet, you can create a thread that ties your heart to that of Ghana -though invisible but stronger than chains”.

To bridge this divide, Mr Obeng urged President-Elect Mahama to forge a connection with the people grounded in “love, passion, and dedication to their well-being.” This bond, he asserted, must transcend rhetoric, as “rhetoric is the wind that whispers through the ears; it is action that builds lasting monuments.”

A Second Chance to Build Lasting Bridges

Moreover, Kwame Asare Obeng’s letter underscored the significance of President-Elect Mahama’s second chance at the presidency, framing it as an opportunity to leave an indelible legacy.

He warned against the perils of grandiose promises and fleeting rhetoric, advocating instead for actionable leadership that addresses Ghana’s foundational challenges.

‘Ghana does not need grand speeches or lofty promises; what she needs is a solid foundation for progress. As the saying goes, ‘A bridge built on whispers will crumble beneath the weight of footsteps’. Your second chance is an opportunity to construct bridges that will stand the test of time.”.

Mr Obeng’s letter also acknowledged the crucible of opposition politics that Mahama endured over the past eight years.  He likened President-Elect Mahama’s resilience to a tree that bends in the storm to avoid breaking, suggesting that these experiences have equipped him with unparalleled insight and fortitude.

“Carry those lessons with you into this presidency,” Mr Obeng advised, encouraging Mahama to use the criticisms and hardships of opposition as stepping stones to success.

In his concluding portion of the letter, Kwame Asare Obeng challenged President-Elect  Mahama to seize this moment to transform Ghana into a “beacon of hope and prosperity,” reminding him that the ultimate weight of success or failure rests solely on his shoulders.

Quoting the adage, “The heart of a leader must beat for the people,” Mr Obeng implored President Mahama to let his actions speak louder than words and to prioritize the welfare of all Ghanaians.
