Nurudeen Condemns Attempt to Commission Incomplete Ashanti Regional Hospital

Sawua-Hospital-Asante-Akim-Central-Hospital-Konongo

Abass Nurudeen, Esq., the NDC Ashanti Regional Communications Officer, has issued a strong warning to the Ashanti Regional Minister, urging him to cease what he describes as a shameful and deceptive attempt to commission the uncompleted 250-bed Ashanti Regional Hospital at Sawua, a legacy project initiated under the Mahama administration.

Nurudeen criticized this move as a clear act of political deception aimed at disguising the inefficiencies of the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia-led NPP government.

He argued that the current administration has failed to complete any major health infrastructure projects inherited from the visionary Mahama/Amissah-Arthur era, particularly in the Ashanti Region, leaving a trail of abandoned projects.

“It has come to our attention that the Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr. Simon Osei Mensah, is making efforts to commission the uncompleted 250-bed Ashanti Regional Hospital at Sawua, despite overwhelming evidence that the project is far from completion.

“It is worth recalling that this hospital project was initiated under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama, who performed the sod-cutting ceremony in 2015”.

Abbas Nurudeen, Esq.

The NDC Communicator further highlighted that the 250-bed Ashanti Regional Hospital project was initially scheduled to be completed within 20 months.

However, he expressed regret that, despite being at an advanced stage of completion when President Mahama left office in 2016, the project has been allowed to deteriorate under the Akufo-Addo-led NPP government.

He lamented that nearly eight years have passed without any meaningful progress on the facility, which was poised to significantly improve healthcare delivery in the Ashanti Region.

According to Nurudeen, instead of prioritizing its completion, the NPP government has neglected the project, leaving it to waste and denying the people of the region access to essential healthcare services.

He pointed out that, shockingly, just three days before the NPP leaves power, the Ashanti Regional Minister announced plans to commission the unfinished hospital. “This move is a disingenuous effort to create a false impression of having completed all inherited health projects in the region”.

Nurudeen Questions Akufo-Addo’s Hospital Commissioning Discrepancy

Furthermore, Abbas Nurudeen, Esq., emphasized that the people of the Ashanti Region are owed answers to several important issues.

He pointed out that despite President Akufo-Addo’s extensive commissioning spree in the region just a month before the elections, the 250-bed Ashanti Regional Hospital was conspicuously left out.

Nurudeen questioned why the president did not commission the facility if it was truly ready for use, highlighting the discrepancy between the government’s claims and the reality on the ground.

According to him, this omission only serves to deepen the frustration and distrust of the people in the government’s handling of critical infrastructure projects.

“Why is President Akufo-Addo delegating the commissioning of a supposedly completed 250-bed regional hospital to the Ashanti Regional Minister, while he personally commissions a much smaller 40-bed district hospital in Sabronum?*

“These questions expose the deceit and lack of commitment that have characterized the NPP government’s approach to critical health infrastructure in the Ashanti Region”.

Abbas Nurudeen, Esq

Nurudeen further asserted that it is glaringly evident that the NPP, especially the Ashanti Regional Minister, has failed to learn from their humiliating defeat in the recent elections.

He maintained that the NPP’s continued reliance on dishonesty and token gestures only serves to erode its credibility and undermine the trust of the public.

The NDC Communicator also called on the people of the Ashanti Region to reject the planned commissioning of the unfinished Ashanti Regional Hospital at Sawua.

He described the move as nothing more than a hollow spectacle, designed to deceive and mislead the public.

He further emphasized that such a shameful act is an outright insult to the intelligence of the region’s residents, who are well aware of the true state of the facility.

Nurudeen indicated that instead of addressing the region’s real healthcare needs, this attempt to present an incomplete project as a success only highlights the NPP government’s disregard for the people’s well-being. “The health and well-being of Ghanaians must never be sacrificed on the altar of political expediency”.
