The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has firmly warned the general public, especially those impacted by the recent fire at Kantamanto, that there are no fees required for obtaining attestation letters related to fire and emergency incidents.

The GNFS emphasized that these letters, which are crucial for verification purposes, are provided free of charge, and victims should not be asked to pay any amount for their issuance.

Accordingly, the Service encouraged the public to report any attempts to charge fees for such services, as the GNFS remains committed to supporting the community in the aftermath of emergencies without additional financial burden.

In line with this, the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) strongly advised the public, particularly those affected by the recent fire incidents, not to make any payments when requesting attestation letters.

The service emphasized that such letters are provided free of charge, and individuals should refrain from paying any fees or accepting requests for payment.

Accordingly, the GNFS encouraged the public to report any instances where fees are wrongly demanded, ensuring that services are delivered fairly and without financial exploitation.

Furthermore, the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) reassured all victims affected by the recent fire incident that the matter is being treated with the highest level of seriousness.

The service noted that it has initiated a detailed investigation to thoroughly examine the situation.

Consequently, the GNFS warned that any officer found to be at fault would be held accountable and subjected to disciplinary actions in strict accordance with the GNFS’s established code of conduct.

“The GNFS remains committed to its mandate of serving the public with integrity and professionalism. Anyone with information regarding this matter is encouraged to report to GNFS Greater Accra Headquarters, Korle-Bu, or contact the Public Relations Department on 050 960 8744 for necessary action”.

The GNFS also emphasized that it is committed to ensuring that all its personnel adhere to the highest standards of professionalism and that any misconduct will be addressed promptly to maintain public trust and confidence in the service.

Meanwhile, the service also expressed serious concerns regarding the plans by traders to rebuild their shops at the Kantamanto market using wood.

The service raised alarm that such a decision could lead to a recurrence of the devastating fires that have frequently affected the area.

The GNFS strongly urged traders to reconsider using wood in their reconstruction efforts, as it significantly increases the risk of future fires.

The service emphasized that there are more fire-resistant materials available that should be considered for rebuilding, which could better withstand the effects of fire and help reduce the spread of flames in the event of another fire.

By opting for these safer alternatives, traders can contribute to minimizing the risk of devastating losses in the future and help ensure a safer, more resilient market environment for all.

The GNFS firmly advocated for the adoption of fire-resistant construction practices to protect lives, property, and businesses in vulnerable areas.

The Service also expressed its sincere gratitude for the public’s continued cooperation and understanding during this time.

According to the GNFS, as it works diligently to uphold the highest standards of accountability and service delivery, it recognizes the importance of public support in ensuring that the needs of the community are met with integrity and professionalism.

The GNFS expressed its commitment to fostering a strong relationship with the public and remains dedicated to providing reliable and efficient services to all.

The service expressed appreciation for the trust placed in it,  pledging to maintain transparency and accountability in all its operations.
