Renowned Nigerian music icon Dbanj has extended his warmest congratulations to actress Funke Akindele, following the remarkable success of her film, “Everybody Loves Jenifa”.

The movie has grossed an impressive 1.6 billion, shattering Funke’s previous record and leaving her overwhelmed with gratitude.

The announcement was made by the movie distributor, FilmOne Entertainment, via their official Instagram handle.

Sharing the exciting news, they celebrated the overwhelming support from audiences across the region.

“A billy gang, we’re up! Everybody Loves Jenifa has grossed over ₦1.6 billion at the box office! We can’t thank you enough for showing this movie all your love.”

The post

As Funke acknowledged the support of her fans and credited divine intervention and the unwavering love for her achievement, Dbanj joined in the celebration, praising the actress whom he referred to as his “sister” and Executive Producer for her outstanding accomplishment.

Funke responded to Dbanj’s heartfelt message, thanking him for his support and acknowledging the significant impact it had on the film’s success.

“Brother mi. Aw, thank you so much. It’s for us o. Congratulations to us. Your support really made an impact. God bless you always. Love you baje.”

‘Everybody Loves Jenifa’ was premiered in cinemas on Dec. 13, 2024.

Moreover, the movie out-runs Disney’s Mufasa: The Lion King in the Nigerian box office, which is doing well globally in key territories like France, India, the United Kingdom/Ireland, and Italy, among others.

It’s a rare sight for Hollywood blockbusters, especially those from Disney, to struggle at the box office, let alone in multiple markets.

This phenomenon isn’t new. In 2022, Akindele’s ‘Battle On Buka Street’ pulled off a similar feat during the holiday season, outshining James Cameron’s global juggernaut, ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’.

Despite the massive marketing push behind Cameron’s sequel, Akindele’s local hit resonated more deeply with Nigerian audiences, securing the top spot at the national box office.

With this latest achievement, Funke Akindele now dominates the top four positions on Nollywood’s all-time box office list.

Her previous film, ‘A Tribe Called Judah’, was the first Nigerian production to breach the ₦1 billion mark.

Funke urged her fans and followers to watch the movie as she congratulated them on their new feat.

“Lisabi ni jhoor!! Congratulations to my people @adedimejilateef @mo_bimpe, I love Lisabialegendisborn. It’s a job well done. If you have not seen Lisabialegendisborn check it out on Netflix now. People in the diaspora can stream on Circuits TV @circuitstreams. Swipe to watch the trailer.”
