Ghanaian gospel musician, Joyce Blessing has opened up on the inspiration behind featuring secular artists on her songs.

According to the ‘Heavy Price’ singer, most of the secular musicians that people despise, are friendly and always willing to team up with her on music projects.

Joyce Blessing who has songs with Becca, the late Jewel Ackah, Amerado, and King Paluta disclosed how a gospel artist declined to do a song with her.

“I think I wanted a collabo from some of my colleague gospel artists, I won’t mention name [and the person turned me down]. I think the person felt I was a competitor so he would not give me the [feature].”

However, the Ghanaian gospel singer expressed her desire to collaborate with some of the country’s biggest music stars, including Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, and Shatta Wale.

The ‘Victory’ hitmaker shared that her desire to work with these industry giants dates back to her time at Zylofon Media.

She stated that despite not yet achieving this goal, she remains optimistic and determined.

Joyce Blessing emphasized her openness to working with any secular artist. “I am ever ready to collaborate with any secular artiste who is willing to make songs with me in the gospel way,” the singer explained.

The award-winning crooner, who is currently promoting her latest single, “Correct,” featuring rapper King Paluta, addressed questions about potential criticism from the gospel community and netizens regarding her partnerships with secular artists. She disclosed that she has not faced any backlash yet.

“No one has been bold enough to ask me why I feature secular artists on my songs,” she remarked, adding that her creative process is guided by a dedicated team that vets her songs before release.

“If there’s any concern, I’ll listen to my team because they are the ones I trust to give me constructive feedback.”

Joyce Narrates Ordeals She Went Through

The Ghanaian gospel musician narrated the ordeal she went through in the early stages of her life.

Joyce Blessing explained that she had to sell water and second-hand clothing at some point to survive.

She added that she left home at an early stage because life was difficult for her mother, who single-handedly raised three children.

“From the beginning, it was very hard for me. If I tell people that I used to sell pure water, they won’t believe me. Sometimes I would sell second-hand clothes, brooms, and gari. In fact, we sold anything that we came across. And I did this with my sister.

“My parents didn’t even know how I got to Accra. They got to know when someone informed my mother about a song I did which became a hit. At that time, phones were not as common as they are now. But I am sure she wept when she heard the news.”

She further disclosed that some of her siblings went to school, while others stayed behind to sell, citing herself as one of them.

“My mother gave birth to five children but three stayed with her. So, I have been selling on the streets and people who knew me then now address me by Akos. Anytime I am on the street and I see these people selling, I can give them the last money on me and I don’t even buy fuel.”

The “Oluwa Is Involved” hitmaker also shared the saddest moment in her life regarding her father.

“The saddest moment in my life was when I went searching for my father. I walked from home in search of him. And I didn’t get money when returning because I didn’t meet him and I didn’t know anyone around there.

“So, I had to walk from Abuakwa to Tafo… When I got home, I was crying and when my mother asked, I couldn’t say anything and she also started crying. Up to date, anytime I remember the incident and how far God has brought me, I begin to cry.”

Moreover, Joyce Blessing, a former signee of the defunct music record label, Zylofon Music, disclosed how she used the money she got from the deal. “I built a studio with that money,” she said.

That notwithstanding, she revealed she does not use the facility due to reasons she was unwilling to disclose. “The studio is not for me now. I have a studio I don’t use and I don’t even go there,” Joyce Blessing said.

Meanwhile, building a studio wasn’t the only thing Joyce did with her Zylofon money. She said she also invested some of it in her career.

“There are a lot of things I also did with the money. It was positive and then I pumped a lot of them in my career. It was good.”

Joyce Blessing was signed to Zylofon Music on 28th June 2017, for four years. Her label mates were Shatta Wale, Stonebwoy, Kumi Guitar, and Obibini.
