With over 15 years of experience in peace-building and development processes at the United Nations, Mr. Bani’s appointment reflects a strategic move to leverage his international expertise in addressing Ghana’s security challenges.

Mr. Bani’s career includes a stint as Minister for the Interior from February 29, 2016, to January 6, 2017, during which he played a key role in advancing public safety and internal security.

Notably, he led the UN/IGAD inter-ministerial response to the humanitarian crises in the Horn of Africa (2011–2012) and managed crisis prevention and recovery programs supporting over 20 African nations while serving as a team leader for the UN Bureau for Crisis Prevention and Recovery (BCPR).

The President also named Charles Kipo as the Director General of the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB).

With a mandate to drive intelligence-led operations and strategic decision-making, Mr. Kipo’s leadership is anticipated to play a pivotal role in preempting and mitigating security threats.

These appointments underscore President Mahama’s proactive approach to national security, emphasizing expertise, operational efficiency, and intelligence-driven strategies.

In a statement, Acting Presidential Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu noted, “The President’s choices reflect his unwavering commitment to protecting the safety and security of all Ghanaians.”

The appointments come following President John Dramani Mahama’s meeting with all heads of security services in the country and subsequent visit to Bawku, calling for concerted effort to strengthen internal and external security in the country. .

By assembling a team of seasoned professionals, the Mahama administration aims to strengthen Ghana’s security architecture and ensure the country remains a beacon of stability in the sub-region.
