Spyro Shares Challenges Faced in the Music Industry

Nigerian singer, Spyro, known for his faith-inspired “Jesus Boy” brand, has shared the challenges he faces in the music industry due to his public proclamation of Christianity.

The artist revealed how his faith has resulted in criticism, rejection, and discrimination within the entertainment industry.

“My biggest challenge is the discrimination in the industry. You know I came out with the ‘Jesus Boy’ brand and I’ve received the biggest criticism. I’ve been dragged and it’s hard bro. How many media guys would support me when I drop songs, aside from the blogs I pay?”

Spyro

Spyro likened being a Christian in the industry to war and expressed frustration over the lack of support he receives from industry insiders. He also stressed that his proclamation of Christ publicly seems to invite backlash.

“Once you come out and declare Christ publicly, you enter war. It’s like the system is designed to drag you down. Banky W said something to me, he said that his problem in the industry started when he proclaimed Christ.”

Spyro highlighted the difference in treatment he believes he would receive if he adopted a more ‘normal’ entertainment industry lifestyle.

“If I carry and smoke weed today, I will automatically become part of the inner circle. You enter a circle where everyone is comfortable around you and everyone can vibe with you.”

Spyro

Spyro stressed that his belief in Christ does not mean he claims to be better than everyone else.

“I once said hi to someone in the industry and he just walked past me. When I sit and look at some of these things it could be because I declare Christ. It could be that these people feel attacked, but I’m not claiming that I’m a saint and a holy one; I also have skeletons in my closet.

“Nobody is holy and without sin, that’s why Jesus said that the person without sin should be the first to cast the stone.”

Spyro

According to him, the crazy thing about being a celebrity is that they can’t play their part, “And the bad news goes out first and blows up. When you then try to do PR for the good things, it won’t fly like that bad one.”

He also pointed out that the harshest critics often come from within the Christian community.

“It’s just unfortunate that it’s even Christians that will criticize you more. The majority of the people who drag me and give me issues are Christians. They are churchgoers. We call ourselves Christians, but we don’t support ours.”

Spyro Calls Out Ubi Franklin Over Scam

spyro 1
Spyro

The Nigerian singer accused music executive, Ubi Franklin of scamming him out of $5,000 after a performance in Ghana.

Spyro alleged that Franklin lured him into performing at a birthday party under the guise of a request from Afrobeats superstar Davido.

Despite an agreement to pay him $5,000 for the performance, Spyro claims Franklin failed to fulfill his promise.

Recounting the incident, Spyro said he was initially hesitant to perform, citing his strict policy of working only through his management.

He alleged that Franklin manipulated the situation by falsely claiming Davido had requested the performance.

“Upon getting to the venue, Davido was leaving the stage, and Ubi informed me that I was up next. I couldn’t decline because there were dignitaries present.”

Spyro

The singer expressed his frustration, stating that Franklin ignored his requests for payment after the event, even after their return to  Lagos.

According to Spyro, Franklin went as far as warning him not to contact Davido about the issue, revealing that Davido had never made such a request.

Spyro also mentioned the involvement of Pastor Bolaji in attempting to resolve the matter, but no resolution was reached.

“It’s painful because he goes around scamming people. I’m speaking out to protect other artists who might fall victim to this.”
