Film and theatre star, Adwoa Smart, born Belinda Naa Ode Oku has revealed that she is not pitiful and needy.

The beloved veteran actress lamented bloggers creating the impression her circumstances were beggarly and that she came asking for alms the last time she was on the program when she only stated she wanted to own a house in response to a question her host had asked.

“Maybe things are not at their best but I’m content,” she added, noting her heartfelt prayer remained owning a house.

“Even more, they said the former Vice President, His Excellency Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia bought me a house. Apparently, the bloggers composed a picture of the two of us with Dr. Bawumia appearing to put a [house] key in my hands.”

She said she had been questioned several times during media appearances as if the rumor were true. “Were it not for Nana Ampadu’s state funeral, I would have never met Dr. Bawumia,” she clarified.

Adwoa Smart noted with grief the rumor could prevent people from expressing kindness to her toward fulfilling her dream of being a real estate owner and beyond.

“It’s really brought me unnecessary pressure. I’m questioned all the time. Someone was even asking me about this last week.”

Thus, concerning her controversy and as a general rule in life, she appealed, “Don’t say or spread what you know is not true.”

Adwoa Smart decried misinformation and disinformation in new media.

“I always say social media is useful but in other instances too it causes trouble, to say the least. Facebook, TikTok, etc., point out crimes, attracting the attention of the relevant authorities but the same social media is used by others for unacceptable things.”

“You only engage in some of these things when you have sorted out some critical things in your life.”

Although she disclosed she was not a virgin, she emphasized she was, also, not promiscuous. “My mind is on more important things,” she said.

The popular film and theatre talent indicated she does not like “pressure and stress”.

She disclosed this was another reason for staying away from amorous relationships.

“You’d get into a relationship only to find out your partner is married or with someone else. Due to this, I don’t like these things.”

Naturally, she was asked if she had suitors. Adwoa Smart enthusiastically responded she receives advances all the time “by God’s grace. These are great men but I’m only being careful so I turn them down.”

She said, however, in God’s own time, she will give someone a chance. Ms Smart noted though she had dated in the past, she had never been married. “I’ve been a mother before,” she footnoted.

Moreover, Adwoa Smart, observed that since she got into the habit of taking taxis, and reducing her walking time, she has gained weight, “become heavy, and it’s someway [uncomfortable]”.

She recalled times past when she combined walking with getting on commercial buses called ‘trotro’. “I was doing okay [then],” she remarked.

“Walking is really good. Walking is good exercise. It is better than getting on these vehicles. But when you walk, people criticize you, and question why you don’t have a car.”

Adwoa Smart

According to Ms Smart, she is often compared to acting stars of today who appear to be enjoying transport luxuries. She said her critiques made it seem as though she lived irresponsibly.

“God has an appointed time for everyone,” she noted has always been her response in such instances.

“Everyone has their unique streams of income, also. Everyone has their unique glories.”

Adwoa Smart intimated notwithstanding her clever pushbacks, the criticism led her to move about in taxis. She expressed unhappiness with the implications that has had for her health.
