The Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) has announced the appointment of Dr. Bernice Makafui Brempong as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately. She takes over from Yofi Grant, who concluded his tenure on December 30, 2024.

The Centre in a statement noted that Dr. Brempong brings to the role a wealth of experience in business development, healthcare, and strategic partnerships.

“Though trained as a pharmacist, Dr. Brempong has established herself as an innovative business leader, founding and leading a portfolio of thriving companies across the pharmaceutical, healthcare, and commodity sectors, contributing significantly to Ghana’s socio-economic development”.

Her appointment signals a new chapter for the GIPC as the agency continues its mission to position Ghana as a premier investment destination in Africa.

Dr. Brempong’s academic background is both impressive and diverse. She holds a Bachelor of Pharmacy from the University of Ghana’s School of Pharmacy, a Master of Science in Entrepreneurship from the University College of London, and a Doctor of Pharmacy from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

This unique combination of qualifications has enabled her to bridge the gap between healthcare and business innovation effectively. Over the years, she has built an enviable reputation as a results-driven professional with a strong commitment to socio-economic development.

Before assuming her new role at GIPC, she served as the Chief Executive Officer of Makhealth Pharmaceuticals Ltd., a leading pharmaceutical company.

Additionally, she has held executive leadership roles at Synergy Commodities Ltd. and D-Amphora Ltd., where she played a pivotal role in fostering business growth and creating strategic investment opportunities.

A Vision for Investment Growth

Dr. Brempong’s appointment comes at a crucial time when Ghana is aggressively positioning itself as an attractive investment hub.

With her strong advocacy for the development of Ghana’s health economy, she believes that attracting health-related investments will be a key driver of sustainable economic growth.

Her expertise and experience will be instrumental in steering the GIPC toward new frontiers in investment promotion, particularly in high-potential sectors such as manufacturing, agro-processing, tourism, pharmaceuticals, oil and gas, real estate, and mining.

Upon her appointment, Dr Brempong reaffirmed her commitment to working collaboratively with stakeholders to enhance Ghana’s business environment.

She pledged to build on the foundation laid by her predecessor and introduce innovative strategies to attract both local and foreign direct investments (FDI).

Guided by the GIPC Act 2013 (Act 865), the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre remains the primary agency responsible for the promotion and facilitation of investments in Ghana.

The agency plays a critical role in marketing Ghana’s business-friendly environment to global investors while ensuring that existing businesses thrive.

Under Dr. Brempong’s leadership, GIPC is expected to further accelerate its ‘Invest Ghana’ agenda, which seeks to expand business opportunities and drive economic transformation.
