Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Defense Minister

Reflecting on his recent vetting by the Appointments Committee of Parliament, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister-Designate for Defense, has reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to defending his principles.

He emphasized that throughout his career, he has consistently stood by his convictions and will continue to do so in his new role if approved.

Dr. Omane Boamah specifically highlighted his strong opposition to corruption and the misappropriation of public resources as he made clear during his vetting on Tuesday 28th January 2025.

He expressed deep concern over the unlawful acquisition of public lands, stressing that such acts undermine national development and must be addressed decisively.

According to him, the state has a responsibility to take firm action against individuals or entities involved in looting public lands to ensure accountability and protect national assets.

“The Appointments Committee of Parliament did its Constitutionally mandated job, I don’t take it personally…For the third time (2009, 2013 & 2025), I have been vetted by the august Parliament of our dear Republic.

“Each of my vetting exceeded 3 solid hours. Yesterday’s not being an exception lasted from 11 am to after 6 pm”.

Dr. Omane Boamah further asserted his longstanding position on the performance of the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana during his tenure as Director of Elections and IT.

He maintained, with evidence, that the EC operated with incompetence, engaged in acts he deemed criminal, and demonstrated bias in its conduct.

He emphasized that this was not a view he adopted retrospectively but one he firmly held before, during, and after the just-ended election period.

Meanwhile, the issue of Omane Boamah’s opinion on the EC was raised during his vetting by the Appointments Committee of Parliament, reinforcing the importance of accountability in electoral processes.

According to Dr. Boamah, the integrity of electoral institutions is crucial to upholding democracy, and any lapses, especially those related to bias and irregularities, must be thoroughly examined and addressed.

He reiterated his commitment to transparency and fairness, emphasizing that his stance on the EC’s failures remains unchanged. “[The EC made] Basic arithmetic errors, criminal transfer of voters, systematic manipulation of the voters register, and asymmetric reception for ideas from the NDC”.

Pledge to Drive National Development

Furthermore, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah expressed his gratitude to the Appointments Committee of Parliament for the opportunity to be vetted and to present his vision and qualifications for the role of Minister of Defense.

He acknowledged the rigorous nature of the process and commended the committee for its thorough engagement.

He also prayed for longevity, good health, and the strength to serve the nation effectively.

Dr. Boamah emphasized his commitment to contributing to the national good, expressing hope that his efforts, along with those of others in leadership, would lead to meaningful progress and development for the country.

“I’m grateful to God, my mother, my wife, and our kids, and my teeming friends and senior colleagues for supporting me throughout my vetting over the years and for the encouraging resilience they showed yesterday when my vetting lasted from 11 am to beyond 6 pm. I’ll never take your love for granted”.

The NDC stalwart reaffirmed his unwavering stance on key national issues, including corruption and electoral irregularities, highlighting his consistency in advocating for accountability and transparency.
