Ewoyaa’s Expanded Feldspar Resource Strengthens Ghana’s Mining Industry

Atlantic Lithium Limited has announced a significant upgrade to the Mineral Resource Estimate (MRE) for its flagship Ewoyaa Lithium Project in Ghana.

The updated JORC (2012) compliant Feldspar MRE now stands at 36.8 million tonnes (Mt) at 41.9% feldspar, reaffirming Ewoyaa’s potential as a major domestic supplier of feldspar to Ghana’s ceramics industry.

The new estimate builds on the Maiden Feldspar MRE announced in December 2023, which covered only the first five years of spodumene production.

The increased MRE now accounts for the entire 12-year mine life of Ewoyaa, integrating all drilled spodumene pegmatites.

This update reinforces Ewoyaa’s long-term viability, not only as Ghana’s first lithium mine but also as a key feldspar producer.

Speaking on the resource upgrade, Keith Muller, CEO of Atlantic Lithium, expressed optimism about Ewoyaa’s increasing significance in Ghana’s mineral sector.

“The increased Feldspar MRE strengthens our confidence in Ewoyaa as a major feldspar supplier in Ghana.

“It ensures long-term feldspar production alongside spodumene concentrate, supporting local industries and economic growth.”

Keith Muller, CEO of Atlantic Lithium

Atlantic Lithium revealed that the updated feldspar MRE estimates to be “36.8Mt at 41.9% feldspar,” with a significant portion of this resource—29.8Mt (81%)—classified as Measured and Indicated categories.

Specifically, the Measured category holds “3.7Mt at 40.2% feldspar,” while the Indicated category contains “26.1Mt at 42.1% feldspar.” Additionally, “7.0Mt at 42.4% feldspar” is included in the Inferred category.

The results have been framed within the same geological model used for the previously released lithium MRE, which estimated “36.8Mt at 1.24% Li2O.”

The synergy between these two resources further solidifies Ewoyaa as an integrated project with both feldspar and lithium potential, positioning it as a significant player in Ghana’s mining industry.

Atlantic Lithium has also undertaken metallurgical test work and ceramic application trials using feldspar samples from Ewoyaa.

These trials focused on the production of vitreous hotelware, high-end earthenware, and floor tiles.

The results were promising, with the produced ware meeting industry standards in all key areas, including water absorption, density, porosity, shape, color, and appearance.

Vision for Ewoyaa’s Feldspar Potential

Feldspar is a crucial raw material used in the ceramics industry, particularly for manufacturing items such as tiles, porcelain, and vitreous ware.

The potential for Ewoyaa to become a major domestic source of feldspar is pivotal for the Ghanaian economy, particularly for local industries that rely on this mineral for their production processes.

“We intend to supply the feldspar to the local Ghanaian ceramics market to support the growth of businesses in the industry and the wider economy.”

Keith Muller, CEO of Atlantic Lithium

Muller added that feldspar’s inclusion in the project’s Life of Mine production strategy enhances its commercial viability and provides a sustainable resource for Ghana’s domestic market.

“By incorporating feldspar in our feasibility studies, we aim to optimize operational efficiency and reduce overall project costs while meeting local industry needs.”

Keith Muller, CEO of Atlantic Lithium

The Feldspar MRE builds on the Lithium MRE announced in July 2024, which estimated “36.8Mt at 1.24% Li₂O for Ewoyaa.” The pegmatite geology model and lithium mineralisation framework form the basis for both estimates.

The updated Feldspar MRE for the Ewoyaa Lithium Project marks a significant achievement for Atlantic Lithium and reinforces the project’s potential to serve as a major domestic source of feldspar in Ghana.

The integration of feldspar production into the broader mine plan will enhance the overall value proposition of the Ewoyaa project, benefiting both the lithium and feldspar markets.

As Ghana continues to advance its industrialization efforts, Ewoyaa’s dual-stream production model could play a vital role in supporting the nation’s growing ceramics industry, driving economic growth, and enhancing local job creation.

With positive metallurgical test results, a growing resource base, and a clear strategy for integrating feldspar into the domestic market, Ewoyaa is well on its way to becoming a cornerstone of Ghana’s mining and manufacturing sectors.

Atlantic Lithium’s commitment to sustainability and local economic development, alongside its ongoing efforts to bring the project to fruition, positions the company for long-term success and makes Ewoyaa a project to watch in the coming years.
