Ghanaian media mogul, Bola Ray has shared the story behind his iconic name and the journey that has shaped his career in the entertainment industry.

Bola Ray, whose real name is Nathaniel Anokye Adisi, recounted how he adopted the name “Bola Ray” during his early school days.

“I got the name when I was in SHS. Initially, I had a different nickname, ‘Bongo,’ but I felt it wasn’t distinctive enough. One day, while walking to prep, I stumbled upon a pencil with the inscription ‘Bola on it.’ I thought, ‘Why not be different and call myself Bola Ray?’”

Bola Ray

Beyond just a nickname, Bola Ray explained the significance of each letter in his name. The “B” represents “boldness”, “O” for “outstanding”, “L” stands for “loving,” and “A” for “affable”. Ray, he added, represents being religious, ambitious, and youthful, qualities he has carried throughout his career.

Bola Ray also reminisced about his childhood and the unique experiences that helped shape his personality.

“My dad was a computer programmer, and I remember the unforgettable road trip we took in 1986 when we drove from Obuasi to Accra. That journey remains one of the best memories of my life.”

Regarding his career, Bola Ray emphasized his initial dream of becoming a lawyer.

“From age 12 to 15, I was obsessed with the idea of being a lawyer. It wasn’t until later in life that I realized my true passion was in media, specifically radio and television.”

Bola Ray’s transition into media started with him hosting the popular show “Music for You” on GTV, where he made his debut as a co-host. “It was a big deal back then, and I was hooked on media,” he said, reflecting on the early days of his career.

Bola Ray’s revelations offered a rare glimpse into experiences that shaped his personality and career.

From a young boy with a pencil-inspired nickname to a celebrated media personality, his story is one of self-definition and continuous evolution.
