Opanka on Western Romance Standards

Opanka

Opanka has urged the public not to blindly copy Western culture but to understand it before practice.

He took issue with the notion that Ghanaian men were notoriously unromantic because they were not in the habit of gifting their partners flowers, among other things.

“We should not always do what the Whites do. Let’s be honest: what’d be the use of flowers presented to a woman? Is she going to plant it? Is she going to decorate her home with it?

“Honestly, when you’re outside [in the West], it makes sense. It’s someone’s culture. We respect it. It is not our culture, however. Let’s not be influenced by movies. If I buy the flowers for you, what exactly will you do with them?”

Opanka

Opanka doubled down, arguing if Ghanaian women wanted flowers because of Western practices, they had to be consistent and adopt other practices like “paying for their stuff” on dates, too.

“Meanwhile, if you take a Ghanaian woman out on a coffee or walking date as they do abroad, she will accuse you of being stingy. The White woman who wants flowers is the same one who appreciates simple things like a walk together. So if you want flowers, accept a walk too.”

Opanka

He said it was “the effort [Westerners] appreciate,” even more than the gift itself, urging locals to take a cue.

Opanka urged women to be practical in their expectations of gifts.

“You may need a new wig, money for your rent, or new lotion. It’s better to plan on getting money [from your partner] to get that instead of flowers. If I buy flowers, how will you get the wig?”

Opanka Recounts Given Free Massage Due to Stardom

The US-based Ghanaian rapper recounted a time when he was given free massage services because of his stardom.

According to Opanka, he once went to a massage parlor in the US and during his time there, his friend disclosed he was a music star, showing some of the rapper’s works online to an executive at the establishment.

The Highlife star stated that the executive promptly came to show her appreciation and admiration.

“She said she couldn’t charge me for the service but would only ask me to post a picture she takes of my time there.”

Opanka

The rapper and singer noted in the US, “big and popular people” are “appreciated unlike in our country”.

“When people in the US see a star, they make you feel you’ve paid your dues and you’ve done a good job.”

Opanka

He said he had been given rousing receptions because of his status as a music star.

“So many times. The respect they have for you skyrockets.”

Opanka

According to him, it’s an amazing feeling anytime his anonymity is broken and people find out who is in America.

The rapper revealed that Donald Trump is not as troublesome as some think.

The US-based Ghanaian opined US President Trump basically “wants to know the people in the country”.

He said Trump’s crackdown on illegal immigrants and mass deportation, which has become controversial, was to control crime.

“Assuming someone comes into the country and is undocumented, if they commit a crime, how would the authorities find such a person?”

Opanka

The Hiplife star intimated the illegal immigration crisis in the USA was exacerbated by undocumented people who came into the Western country not by air with visas but mostly by land.

“If you live in the US, you’ll understand Trump. He is helping the country. He is only giving illegal immigrants a hard time.

“But if you’re documented, he doesn’t have a problem with you. He is focused mainly on criminals and bad actors. A lot of the people who have been deported are on a wanted list.”

Opanka

He urged his audience to be wary of misinformation on the internet and verify before they spread something.
