Alhaji Said Sinare, the National Chairman of the Zongo Caucus Working Committee of the National Democratic Congress has commended President Mahama’s reduction of the cost of 2025 Hajj pilgrimage fares.

The move, which fulfils a key campaign promise, has been lauded as a major relief for thousands of Ghanaian Muslims who have long struggled with the financial burden of undertaking the sacred pilgrimage to Mecca.

In an official statement, he extended his heartfelt appreciation to President Mahama and the NDC government for prioritizing the welfare of the Muslim community, particularly those in the Zongo communities who often face economic hardships.

“This decision is not only a testament to our commitment to the welfare of the Muslim community but also aligns with one of the most impactful promises made during the 2024 campaign tour, where I had the honour of visiting over 4,000 Zongo communities”.

For years, Ghanaian Muslims aspiring to fulfil the Hajj pilgrimage have faced rising costs, making the spiritual journey increasingly difficult.

The financial strain has been particularly severe for families in Zongo communities, many of whom have had to defer their pilgrimage due to affordability concerns. The latest intervention by the Mahama administration is expected to significantly ease these financial burdens.

By reducing Hajj fares, Alhaji Sinare noted that the government has demonstrated not only a deep understanding of the socio-economic challenges faced by Muslims in Ghana but also a commitment to ensuring that religious obligations are accessible to all, regardless of financial standing.

A Testament to Inclusive Governance

The decision to lower Hajj fares according to Ahaji Sinare underscores President Mahama’s broader vision of inclusivity, ensuring that governance policies cater to the needs of all Ghanaians, particularly marginalized and economically disadvantaged groups.

Alhaji Sinare emphasized that this initiative is a reflection of the administration’s unwavering dedication to uplifting the Muslim community.

“It is crucial to recognize that the decision reflects the President’s commitment to inclusivity and support for all Ghanaian citizens, especially those in the Zongo communities, who often face economic constraints”.

The move is also expected to strengthen communal bonds within the Muslim fraternity, fostering a sense of unity and devotion as more individuals are able to participate in the sacred pilgrimage.

Ensuring a Seamless Implementation

While the reduction in fares has been met with widespread applause, Alhaji Sinare called for a concerted effort among stakeholders to ensure that the policy is implemented smoothly.

The success of this initiative, he noted, hinges on collaboration between government agencies, Hajj organizers, and community leaders to guarantee a seamless experience for pilgrims.

“As we move forward, I encourage all stakeholders to collaborate in ensuring that this initiative is implemented smoothly, allowing for a seamless and memorable Hajj experience for all participants”.

He further called on the Muslim community to embrace the opportunity with gratitude and to approach the pilgrimage with a renewed sense of spiritual devotion and peace.

As a leading advocate for the rights and welfare of Zongo communities, Alhaji Sinare reiterated his unwavering commitment to ensuring that their needs remain a priority under the Mahama administration.  He assured members of the community that their voices will continue to be heard at the highest levels of government.

“Once again, I commend President John Dramani Mahama for this remarkable achievement and reiterate my commitment to advocating for the needs and interests of our Zongo communities”.

The reduction in Hajj fares is expected to have a ripple effect beyond the immediate financial relief. It is likely to enhance goodwill between the Muslim community and the NDC government, solidifying trust and reaffirming the party’s commitment to religious and economic inclusivity.

The move to lower Hajj fares is not just a policy decision; it is a strategic intervention that addresses a long-felt need in Ghana’s Muslim community.

The impact of this initiative is expected to resonate across the country, particularly in regions with large Muslim populations.

The reduction in Hajj fares by President John Dramani Mahama and the NDC government marks a significant milestone in addressing the needs of Ghana’s Muslim community.

Alhaji Said Sinare’s commendation highlighted the deep appreciation felt by many for this intervention, which is set to positively impact thousands of aspiring pilgrims.

Political analysts have also noted that the decision could bolster the NDC’s standing among Muslim voters, reinforcing the party’s reputation as one that prioritizes social interventions and religious inclusivity.

The NDC’s commitment to fulfilling campaign promises, as demonstrated by this decision, further strengthens its credibility among the electorate.

In recent years, the cost of Hajj fares has been a contentious issue, with many calling for government intervention to make the pilgrimage more affordable.

President Mahama’s decision to heed these calls is likely to be remembered as a landmark achievement in the history of religious support policies in Ghana.

With the government’s intervention, more Ghanaian Muslims will now have the opportunity to embark on the sacred journey to Mecca, fulfilling a core pillar of their faith without undue financial hardship.
