Article Wan Shares Significance of Stagecraft

Article Wan

Ghanaian musician, Article Wan has shared his secrets to having a show-stopping performance, emphasizing the importance of stagecraft and creating a memorable experience for the audience.

Article Wan stated that a good performance leaves people with something to talk about.

“A good performance or stagecraft starts from your intro, how you enter the stage, and when you enter the stage. The people should feel it in the middle, they should enjoy you.

“When you are leaving, there should be something that everybody can talk about. When people really don’t talk about your performance, I don’t consider it as a performance.”

Article Wan

He also noted that a good stage performance goes beyond wearing nice costumes.

“Forget about how you are going to dress nicely and come and do everything. [It is not good] when people don’t talk about it; it should be memorable. Like, it should be something that will be on the back of people’s minds.”

The musician also shared his personal experience with stage performances, admitting that he can be hard on himself when things don’t go as planned.

“Me, myself, sometimes when I go to the stage and I don’t feel my best, I tell my team when they tell me, ‘Hey, you have to spoil there’. I say, no, no, you don’t know what you’re saying. I know how I want to do it.

“So when it doesn’t go well for me, personally, the spirit is down. Because you can’t come and lie to me that That super you spoil there, you spoil there. I know what I can do. What are you telling me?”

When asked about his past performance on the TGMA stage, Article Wan revealed, saying, “I really didn’t enjoy our performance because that was the time I was coming up and how the coordination went for me to come and perform by then.”

He has been in the news lately for requesting that the Telecel Ghana Music Awards organizers bill him for stage performances.

He indicated that he could do better than the “jump and go” artists they put on the stage.

“Kudos to TGMA for your remarkable work over the years! As you plan ahead, I humbly suggest curating a lineup of talents like myself and others who deliver truly memorable performances, not just ‘jump and go’ acts.”

In the meantime, he is out with a new song titled ‘Feel Okay.’

The Ghanaian musician, born Bright Homenya, voiced his frustration over being overlooked in the country’s music industry.

The singer expressed disappointment at the lack of recognition and support despite his talent and contributions to Ghanaian music.

“I won’t blow my own horn, but go and do your research. When we take the microphone, it’s a different vibration. You can put me on any stage in this world, regardless of whether they know my songs or not. The magic is there. Ghana should do an agenda and push Article Wan. Ghana is sitting on Article Wan, and it’s so bad.”

Article Wan

Article Wan appealed to fans and key stakeholders in the industry to acknowledge his talent and extend the support needed to advance his career.

“I have something here, but I can’t put it out alone. I need everybody’s support, and some big personalities in the music industry have ignored me, and I feel that’s bad. The work we’re all doing, there are people who are our seniors in the game who can manipulate the work in a way. They have the structure to put things in place, and everything will go well.”

Article Wan

He also shed light on the difficulties faced by artists who lack the endorsement or backing of influential figures in the industry.

“In everything we do, people have their own favourites. If you’re not part of Team A, when they’re doing something, selecting, you’ll be their second option. This has made a lot of great artists who don’t have the power to push things harder suffer.”

Article Wan

The remarks have sparked discussions among fans and stakeholders, with many calling for a renewed focus on unearthing and supporting Ghanaian talent like Article Wan.
