In a bold and transformative move to improve education in his constituency, Hon. Ernest Adomako, Member of Parliament for Okaikwei South, has launched a comprehensive public school renovation project.

The initiative, estimated to cost GHS 79,500,000 (approximately $5 million), aims to upgrade and enhance learning conditions for over 8,000 students and 350 teachers across 20 public schools in the constituency.

Speaking at the launch event, Hon. Adomako emphasized that the project was more than just a refurbishment effort; it was an investment in the future of Okaikwei South’s children.

“As a Member of Parliament, I have taken this bold step to renovate, upgrade, and fund public schools in Okaikwei South because our children deserve nothing but the best.

“We are not just fixing schools; we are building a brighter and prosperous future for the next generation of leaders, innovators, and change-makers.”

The first phase of the project will focus on the Bishop School, which will serve as a model for the broader initiative.  Hon. Adomako revealed that he is personally financing this phase with support from the Ga Mantse King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, the traditional leader of the Ga State.

The successful renovation of Bishop School is expected to attract funding from corporate institutions and donor agencies to complete similar projects in the remaining 19 schools.

“This is a collective effort. By demonstrating what is possible with Bishop School, we will encourage corporate bodies and international development partners to contribute towards the holistic improvement of our public schools”.

National Support and Educational Policy Announcements

The launch event was graced by Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, Member of Parliament for Tamale South and Minister of Education. He expressed his enthusiasm for the initiative and used the platform to announce key educational policy interventions aimed at enhancing quality learning in Ghana.

“I am particularly happy to announce that Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) will be reintroduced into the management of education in Ghana. This will foster greater collaboration between parents and teachers to improve learning outcomes in our educational institutions.

“PTAs will play a crucial role in supporting schools to produce quality human capital for our country”.

As part of government efforts to improve educational quality, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu disclosed plans to implement a National Standardized Test (NST) for students from Primary 2 through Junior High School (JHS) 2.

This initiative is designed to familiarize students with examination conditions before their Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

“The intention is simple: we do not want a situation where a child’s first experience with an examination is at the BECE level. The NST will prepare students psychologically and academically for future exams, ensuring they are well-equipped for success”.

Hon. Iddrisu also made a personal commitment to support the development of the Cable and Wellness Primary School in Bubuashie.

Reflecting on his deep ties to the area, he assured the community that the school, which was initiated under the late President J.E.A. Mills, would be completed within the year with support from the government.

“I have lived most of my life in Bubuashie. In the last 18 years, I have frequently used the roads here, and I still maintain my home in this community. In honour of this, I want to lift some of the burdens off the shoulders of Hon. Ernest Adomako.

“Accordingly, the Cable and Wellness Primary School will be completed this year with support from the government of Ghana”.

The Okaikwei South Public Schools Renovation initiative is expected to significantly enhance the learning environment in the constituency.

With the backing of local leadership, corporate stakeholders, and the Ministry of Education, the project has the potential to serve as a model for similar educational reforms across the country.
