Stanbic Bank MD Takes Over as GAB President to Drive Banking Sector Growth

Kwamina Asomaning, the Managing Director of Stanbic Bank Ghana

The Ghana Association of Banks (GAB) has elected Kwamina Asomaning, the Managing Director of Stanbic Bank Ghana, as its new President.

His appointment marks a new chapter for the Association as he takes over from John Kofi Adomakoh, who has completed his tenure following his departure from GCB Bank Plc.

In a statement, GAB expressed its appreciation for the service rendered by Mr. Adomakoh, acknowledging his contributions to the banking sector during his tenure. “We extend our gratitude to Mr. Adomakoh for his dedicated service to the banking industry,” the Association stated.

Kwamina Asomaning is widely recognized for his expertise in both international and local finance, bringing years of experience to his new role. His leadership at Stanbic Bank Ghana has been instrumental in positioning the bank as a key player in the country’s financial sector.

“Mr. Asomaning’s proven leadership, coupled with his strategic approach to innovation, makes him well-positioned to lead the Association in strengthening industry collaboration, enhancing financial stability, and promoting sustainable economic growth in Ghana’s banking sector.”

Over the years, Stanbic Bank Ghana, under Mr. Asomaning’s guidance, has been acknowledged for its innovation, customer-centric approach, and commitment to sustainable banking practices. His appointment has been met with optimism, as stakeholders in the banking industry anticipate that his leadership will bring positive transformation.

Strengthening the Banking Sector

GAB has expressed enthusiasm about working with Mr. Asomaning to advance Ghana’s banking industry. His vision for the sector is expected to align with the Association’s broader objectives, including financial inclusion, regulatory compliance, and industry-wide cooperation.

With Ghana’s banking industry navigating a dynamic financial landscape, Mr. Asomaning’s leadership comes at a crucial time. His expertise will be critical in addressing challenges such as economic fluctuations, technological advancements, and the need for increased financial accessibility.

In addition to Mr. Asomaning’s election, GAB also announced other key appointments within the Association’s leadership. Hakim Ouzzani, the Managing Director of Société Générale Ghana, will continue serving as Vice President, while Henry Onwuzurigbo, the Managing Director of Zenith Bank Ghana, will remain the Treasurer.

These appointments reflect GAB’s commitment to maintaining a strong and experienced leadership team to drive the growth and stability of Ghana’s banking sector.
