Ruggedman Shares Stance on Domestic Violence

Renowned rapper and activist Ruggedman has shared his stance on domestic violence, emphasizing that he would never tolerate abuse in any relationship.

The hip-hop star stated that he avoids relationships that involve violence, making it clear to his partners that any situation leading to physical aggression would mark the end of the relationship.

“I always tell any woman I intend to date that if she pushes me to the level where I think of hitting her, then it’s over. For me to want to date someone, means I’ve told her everything that triggers me. So, if you push that button, you’re poking me. I would rather walk away than hit the person.”

Ruggedman recounted a past relationship where he ended things after his partner pushed him during a public argument despite his plea to resolve the issue privately.

He also addressed why some people remain in abusive relationships, citing personal benefits as common reasons.

“A lot of people in abusive relationships saw the red flags but remained in the relationship because of what they were benefiting. Also, some of them are afraid of leaving because of public opinion.”

Many are financially dependent on their abusers, and, since many abuse victims are mothers, they particularly fear being unable to support their children if they leave a violent partner. Many fear reporting the crime because the police can offer no reliable protection against retaliation.

One of the worst problems is that typical abusers often become most violent and vengeful precisely when women try to leave; several women have been murdered by male partners when they tried to press charges or win orders of protection.

Urging victims to prioritize their safety, Ruggedman warned, “It’s better to leave because if you die in an abusive relationship, people will still talk.”

Perpetrators of domestic violence come from all socioeconomic, cultural, and educational backgrounds. The stresses of poverty and the abuse of such substances as alcohol and drugs contribute to the problem.

The Nigerian rapper and activist spoke his mind about not being a husband and father as of yet.

At 51, he said, learning from his younger days, he had made the vow never to have a child out of wedlock, and he has stuck to it.

He added that he had been jilted a couple of times when it came to finding the right person.

“Sometimes, I wonder whether I made the right or wrong decision. But still, it takes a lot from both parties. You have to do it with someone you really love.

“I met some ladies I thought I was going to end up with, but it didn’t work. There was this one lady I was supposed to get married to, but a rich man came in, and the lady’s mother separated us.”

When asked about his opinion on what Flavour said about marriage slowing down the progress of artists, the rapper said: “That’s Flavour not Ruggedman.”

“I don’t know about that one, but I know I’ll get married when the right time comes. If you do things right, marriage won’t be a barrier to your music or whatever you are doing. I will not lie to you, I know a lot of artists that got married and it slowed down their career so much.

“But there are those who got married and are still doing their thing. It’s all left to you and how you manage your marriage and career. I’ll always advise that one should marry his or her best friend; it helps a lot.”

Netizens reacted to Ruggedman’s vow not to have a child out of wedlock.

“Correct, but then if you wanna have a family, get married soon. Better for everyone.”

@ZigiStarks

“I wonder if anyone has been thinking of opening an etiquette grooming business for most of these TV stations. They’re so unruly, loud, and obnoxious. Nonsense.”

@HotKross1_

“Oga if you were a Superstar nothing go make you no get Pikin outside wedlock.”
