Richard Nii Armah Quaye, the renowned entrepreneur and chairman of Bills, has opened up about his difficult childhood and the driving force behind his success.

According to him, he came from a very humble background, stating that life was tough, and his family often struggled to make ends meet.

“My mother, my sister, and I lived in a single room. My mother slept on the bed while my sister and I slept on a mat beside her. There were times we slept in the dark—not because there was no electricity in the area, but because we couldn’t afford it.”

Despite their struggles, his mother never let him go to bed hungry. “She always found a way to put something on the table, no matter how little and that is something I will always be grateful for,” he revealed.

Her [Nii Armah Quaye’s mother] words of encouragement became his motivation. Quaye had to hustle to support himself through school.

“She would tell me, ‘I’m counting on you. You are my only son. If you want me to live long, take us out of this situation.’ Those words stuck with me and gave me the zeal to push forward.

“Right after secondary school, I started selling local gin. I was not even 18, but I had to survive. I sold alcohol in Jamestown while attending IPS (now UPSA). At night, I would sell beer just to save money for my education.”

Through sheer determination, he put himself through school, eventually traveling to the UK to complete his studies.

“I saved enough money from selling alcohol to pay for tuition. I applied for a visa and left at 22 to continue my education.”

Today, Quaye is one of Ghana’s most successful entrepreneurs, but he never forgets where he came from. “My mother’s sacrifices and words of encouragement shaped me, and I had no choice but to succeed,” he added.

The founder and board chairman of Bills, formerly known as Quick Angels Limited and Quick Credit and Investment Micro-credit Limited, shared profound insights on wealth creation, emphasizing that success is not something one chases but something one attracts.

“You must become a particular person to be successful. Work on yourself first, improve yourself, and success will come.”

Nii Armah Quaye

He explained that making one’s first million is often the hardest because it requires transformation.

“At the beginning, you might feel like saving a little money is pointless because reaching a million looks impossible. But what people don’t understand is that the time it takes you to make your first amount of money won’t be the same for the next. With time, the process speeds up.”

According to him, discipline is a crucial element in this journey. “Without discipline, you will not be able to achieve anything because it is the greatest asset you need in life and business,” he said.

Richard Nii Armah Quaye also stressed that wealth creation starts from within. “That is why we attract success—we don’t pursue it,” he revealed.

For those struggling to accumulate wealth, his advice is simple: work on yourself first, develop discipline, and trust the process. “Once you make your first million, your next ten million, hundred million, and even a billion become inevitable,” Richard Nii Armah Quaye added.

Moreover, the Ghanaian entrepreneur is about to host one of the most talked about events in Ghana’s history at Independence Square – his 40th birthday.

Influential personalities across the continent from Nigerian business mogul Aliko Dangote to Tanzanian influencer Diamond Platinumz are expected to be at the event.

Before the birthday, Nii Armah Quaye splashed millions on a Bugatti Chiron and a private jet. His display of wealth has got many obsessing over his background and income streams.
