Regional and International Security Cooperation

Ghana has long been a champion of peace and stability in the West African sub-region and beyond.

President Mahama emphasized the Armed Forces Council’s responsibility to deepen Ghana’s security engagements with the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), the African Union (AU), and international allies.

He called for sustained efforts in peacekeeping, counterterrorism, and cross-border security initiatives, reaffirming Ghana’s commitment to intelligence sharing, training exchanges, and joint operations with global partners.

One of the central messages of the President’s address was the need for ethical leadership, discipline, and accountability within the armed forces.

He emphasized that a strong military is not defined solely by its weaponry or size but by the professionalism, morale, and integrity of its personnel.

“As members of the Armed Forces Council, we must ensure that the highest standards of ethical conduct, transparency, and accountability are maintained within the ranks of our armed forces. Corruption, misconduct, and abuse of power must have no place in our military.”
