Ghanaian singer Cina Soul has broken her silence after facing criticism over her outfit in a dance video for her new song.

Addressing the issue, Cina Soul took to X to express her frustration, highlighting the lack of attention given to her debut album, Did I Lie?, despite her personal investment in its production and promotion.

“I spent so much of my OWN money to make and promote this album and not a single word by any of them. But let Cina Soul wear some crop top and cargo pants for some DANCE content, and it sends them into a frenzy.”

Cina Soul emphasized that she just wants to make music.

The backlash came during a discussion, where Kumawood actor Big Akwes accused her of intentionally exposing her body for attention.

The controversial actor also used demeaning words to describe Cina Soul’s petite stature. He and the guests giggled while they were at it.

He argued that her approach to promoting her music was inappropriate and misguided.

Many social media users have rallied behind Cina Soul, including fellow singer Efya, who publicly defended her, stating, “No Cina Soul slander would be tolerated.”

“This is soo appalling!!! How are you allowing this on your channel?? We just celebrated Women’s Month!! Why are presenters speaking in such a derogatory manner towards an amazing, beautiful, thriving female artist??? why!!!! This is uncalled for and disrespectful and unacceptable!!!!!!!!! No NO NO!!!!! Nooooo!!!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥.”

Efya

Social media influencer and media personality, Felicia Osei also took to social media to shield Cina Soul from the humiliation of Big Akwes.

“So heartbroken to see what happened, and I want you to know that your beauty, talent, and authenticity shine far brighter than any negative words. Your music has always brought so much joy and inspiration, and I truly believe you deserve nothing but kindness and respect. Please remember that your worth isn’t defined by those moments.”

Ghanaian singer, Sefa, added her voice to the recent criticism of Cina Soul’s outfit in a music promo video.

In a series of tweets, she condemned the discussion on Max TV, where a female host and male panelists focused on Cina Soul’s appearance rather than her music. “It’s the woman sitting there for me, laughing while men dissect another woman’s body and career on live TV,” she wrote. “What right do you have to sit on national television and reduce an artist’s hard work to her outfit?”

She went on to highlight the broader issue of female artists facing constant scrutiny rather than support.

“This is the reality in Ghana, where female artists are constantly judged instead of supported. Every move is scrutinized, every choice questioned, but this is ART. Art is self-expression, movement, and creativity.”

Sefa

Sefa ended by calling for a shift in mindset, urging that, “Instead of tearing people down, why not celebrate those striving to build something for themselves?”

Her remarks have fueled further discussion on the treatment of women in the entertainment industry.

Having faced similar criticism over her curvaceous body and fashion choices, Sefa’s comments resonate with many who believe female artists deserve to be recognized for their talent rather than their outfits.

The journey of female artists in Ghana is fraught with challenges, from societal judgment to systemic barriers that hinder their growth and recognition.

However, by acknowledging these issues and advocating for change, individuals create a more inclusive and supportive environment that celebrates the diverse voices of women in the arts.

It is time to shift the narrative from judgment to support, empowering female artists to thrive and contribute to the rich cultural landscape of Ghana. Only then will Ghanaians fully appreciate the depth and breadth of artistic expression that women bring to society.
