A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communications Team, Hamza Suhuyini, has said that the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) is gripped by panic as the Mahama-led administration swiftly fulfills its campaign promises to the Ghanaian people.

Suhuyini insisted that the NPP is struggling to remain politically relevant in the face of what he describes as unprecedented progress under President John Dramani Mahama’s new government.

“So if you have a government that is doing so much within this short period of time, it is therefore not surprising that the opposition party seem to be panicking about the steps of this government”

Hamza Suhuyini, NDC Communications Team Member

Suhuyini praised the government’s early achievements, pointing to critical policy moves aimed at stabilising the economy, improving accountability, and reforming governance structures.

According to him, these actions have unsettled the NPP, triggering a desperate wave of distraction tactics to divert public attention from the administration’s successes.

“The NDC government led by His Excellency John Dramani Mahama made certain promises to the good people of this country.

“Pivotal to those promises have to do with an agenda to reset the economy of this country, to ensure accountability, and most importantly, to expand the frontiers of transparency when it comes to governance in our country”

Hamza Suhuyini, NDC Communications Team Member

He cited the recent legislative changes as a testament to the administration’s commitment to its social contract with Ghanaians.

Among the reforms highlighted was the review of the emissions levy and the Electronic Transactions Levy (E-levy), which Suhuyini described as part of a broader package designed to ease the economic burden on citizens.

Suhuyini also pointed to President Mahama’s drive to reduce the size of government, a promise he says is already being honoured and emphasised that accountability has become a central tenet of the current administration.

“President Mahama is clearly committed to the principles of accountability. That is why we heard the Attorney General organize press conferences to update the good people of this country as to the state of investigations that have been conducted”

Hamza Suhuyini, NDC Communications Team Member

He asserted that such transparency was absent under the previous government and has now become a defining feature of the Mahama administration.

“Clearly, these steps I have just enumerated will, if care is not taken, annihilate the political ambitions of the New Patriotic Party”

A Panicky Opposition

Suhuyini maintained that the NPP’s growing anxiety stems from the realisation that Mahama’s reforms could dismantle their political base ahead of future elections.

When asked directly whether he believed the NPP was panicking, Suhuyini was emphatic.

“Absolutely. So it must be the strategy of every political party in opposition to begin to think of ways to divert the attention of the Ghanaian people away from the gains being made daily by this government”

Hamza Suhuyini, NDC Communications Team Member

He criticised what he called the “conduct” of NPP figures like Hon. John Ntim Fordjour, suggesting that their actions are part of a calculated attempt to cling to relevance.

According to Suhuyini, such efforts are divorced from any genuine concern for national interest or the aspirations of the Ghanaian people.

“You simply cannot resist the conclusion that these are guys gasping for breath, seeking an opportunity to still continue to be politically relevant”

Hamza Suhuyini, NDC Communications Team Member

Following the recent drug trade accusation claims by Hon. Fordjour against the NDC government, Suhuyini did not hold back in accusing the NPP of a sordid history with illicit drug trade, alleging that the party’s record in the Fourth Republic has been tainted by scandals.

“If there is any political party known for its obsession with the cocaine trade, it is the New Patriotic Party.

“Never have we had a situation where an NDC sitting Member of Parliament was arrested or has been arrested outside the shores of this country for cocaine trade”

Hamza Suhuyini, NDC Communications Team Member

He referred specifically to the case of Eric Amoateng, a former NPP MP arrested in the United States for drug trafficking.

He also referred to the mysterious disappearance of 77 parcels of cocaine from the MV Benjamin vessel while under national security watch during an NPP administration.

“This happened under an NPP administration,” Suhuyini said, discarding any moral ground the NPP has to accuse the NDC government of any such activities.

As the Mahama government rolls out its reforms, Suhuyini’s message is clear: the opposition’s panic is not about policy disagreement, but political survival.
