Burna Boy’s remix of Shallipopi’s hit single ‘Laho’ has generated reactions from fans, with the Grammy winner sharing some context on the song’s origin.

According to Burna Boy, ‘Laho II’, released on April 25, 2025, was recorded before Shallipopi’s solo version.

“So, after all these years y’all still don’t know me enough? If this “Laho” was the remix, then I’d go first lol. This was actually the original version, it just couldn’t be cleared for the time he wanted to release cuz it clashed with other releases that had to do with me. Na the remix Shalli first drop, this is the original. Shallipopi ft Burna boy LAHO 2 dropping today at 12am.”

The remix follows the commercial success of the song, which is fast becoming Afrobeats’ first global hit of 2025.

The ‘African Giant’ unveiled the remix in a surprise performance with Shallipopi at his record-breaking Stade De France concert in Paris and again at his historic Co-op Arena concert in Manchester.

Burna Boy has been on a roll with remixes, recently featuring on Joé Dwèt Filé’s ‘4 Kampé II’, which he also performed at his recent concerts.

With his presence on ‘Laho II’, fans expect the song to achieve global success, and it might even appear as a bonus track on his upcoming eighth album, ‘No Sign of Weakness’.

The singer spoke up about the level of gatekeeping he experienced in the entertainment industry.

Burna Boy said this while commenting on a video of Obi Asika’s interview.

Obi Asika who is a known creative artist and Director-General of the National Council for Arts and Culture in Nigeria, recently opened up about some challenges in the entertainment industry.

Obi also gave a glimpse of Burna Boy’s experience with gatekeeping before fame. “This same Burna Boy that’s a million dollars plus today, they be blocking him, He’s from Port Harcourt, he’s not from Lagos, so they be blocking him,” Obi Asika said in the Afropilitan interview.

Obi Asika also revealed that at that time, the singer was not given the opportunity to perform for free. “The same Burna Boy has bypassed everybody and exploded and now he can’t be blocked anymore,” he stated.

As a response to the interview, Burna Boy commented on the post, agreeing with Obi Asika’s statement. He also shed more light on this experience, explaining that he still faces gatekeeping despite his fame.

“This is not even half of the story. They did everything they possibly could to break me, they are even still trying their best lol but all they did was create this unquenchable FIRE that will continue to burn them for eternity.”

Burna Boy

The Grammy awards winner had previously spoken up about his rocky start in his career journey and Asika’s recent revelation has given more artists an opportunity to share their experiences as well.

British rapper Stefflon Don stirred online buzz with a cryptic Instagram post that many believe is a subtle dig at her ex-boyfriend, Nigerian music star Burna Boy.

In the post, Stefflon Don shared a photo of Burkina Faso’s interim president, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, and captioned it: “The real Giant of Africa.”

The caption raised eyebrows, as the Grammy award winner is famously known by the self-proclaimed title “African Giant.”

The post has been widely interpreted as a snide remark aimed at the singer, given the couple’s highly publicized and messy breakup.

Since their split in 2021, both artists have occasionally taken indirect shots at each other—most notably Burna Boy, whose hit track “Last Last” is believed to touch on the emotional aftermath of their relationship.

Stefflon Don’s latest move adds to the ongoing narrative of subtle back-and-forths between the former lovers, and fans on social media haven’t missed the shade.

While she didn’t mention the singer directly, the timing and wording of the post have fueled speculation about lingering tensions between the two.
