Controversial Ghanaian social commentator, Bongo Ideas, has issued a formal first of 8 weekly apology and retraction following a widely criticised tweet aimed at rapper Edward Kofi Amoah, professionally known as Kofi Mole.
In the now-deleted post on X (formerly Twitter), Bongo Ideas urged Kofi Mole to stop smoking, claiming it was affecting his appearance.
“Say NO to drugs. Cut down on the smoking or better still quit. You looking older than your age. You be fine boy, don’t let drugs destroy you. @kofi_mole.”

The message quickly sparked backlash from fans and industry figures, who criticised the commentator for making speculative and potentially damaging remarks about the artiste without any evidence.
In a statement, Bongo Ideas clarified that the tweet was not meant to malign Kofi Mole but was instead motivated by concern.
“This tweet was made out of sincere concern and not with any ill intent. My words stemmed from a place of personal concern, reflecting feelings shared by many fans.”

However, he admitted that the public nature and tone of the post may have led to misinterpretations and unintended harm.
Bongo Ideas conceded that he had “no evidence to corroborate any claims regarding drug use,” and therefore recognised that his choice of words was inappropriate. “I truly regret any misinterpretations that arose from my message,” he said.
As part of the apology, Bongo Ideas announced that he has retracted the tweet and all related posts. He issued a heartfelt apology to Kofi Mole for any distress or reputational harm caused, and committed to reposting the apology on relevant platforms in a manner agreed upon by all parties.
On Monday, May 12, 2025, Kofi Mole, took legal action over what his lawyers describe as “false, malicious, and defamatory” statements regarding his health and drug use, which were circulated online following a recent interview.
Afia Schwarzenegger Defends Kofi Mole Against Drug Abuse Accusations

Ghanaian socialite, Afia Schwarzenegger, fired back at the critics accusing musician Kofi Mole of drug abuse.
She urged the public to be more empathetic toward male artists who, according to her, are struggling due to lack of sponsorship.
This comes after a recent video of Kofi Mole went viral on social media, with some netizens commenting negatively on his appearance, stating that it had ‘deterorated’ due to alleged drug use.
In response to this, Afia Schwarzenegger argued that unlike their female counterparts, male musicians often lack financial backing and face intense challenges in the industry.
“You know I heard people saying Kofi Mole is doing drugs and I want to ask when was the last time Kofi gave us a hit song. Are you people sponsoring him because these male musicians suffer. If you are a celebrity and you don’t sleep with this politicians, you will suffer.”

Drawing from her experience in the industry, Afia further alleged that some wealthy individuals exploit upcoming artists under the guise of offering support.
“We have been in the industry for quite some time now and these rich people are fond of sleeping with these upcoming artists. Some are even praying that the female musicians from wealthy families should lose their mothers so they can sleep with them all in the name of help.”

Afia emphasized that the challenges faced by male artists in Ghana are often overlooked, and harsh public criticism only makes it worse.
“The boys are hungry and suffering. We have some people who call themselves a table of men and if you don’t succumb to their stupidity you would be hungry. The entertainment industry in Ghana has collapsed. If you are a male artist you have to go through the struggle 70 times what the female artists are going through.”
