Mariah Carey has recently shared her controversial opinion on the Grammy Awards.

During an appearance in an interview, the 56-year-old singer said that the Grammys are overrated.

“I think the Grammys are overrated,” confessed Mariah, who has been nominated 34 times for a Grammy throughout her career. “This sentiment goes for both the show and the actual award, but we love everybody,” she added.

For those unversed, Mariah already has five Grammy Awards. She first took home a gramophone in 1991.

Later in the interview, the ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ hitmaker also talked about her fight for freedom within the industry.

“When I first started in the music business, I was often told to conform to certain expectations,” said Mariah.  “I was not encouraged to focus on my love for Black music.”

“It took countless arguments, endless tantrums — I’ll call them tantrums — and mostly unwavering determination, but, eventually, I was able to reveal my authentic self, as they say, and create music that came from my heart. In doing so, I discovered a newfound sense of freedom and fulfillment.”

The ‘Emotions’ singer further said, “I accept this award on behalf of every person who has ever felt silenced or marginalized, who has ever been told their voice doesn’t matter.”

“Your truth matters. We will continue to pave the way together for a future where authenticity is celebrated, diversity is embraced, and music has the power to change the world.”

Mairiah Carey admitted that twins Moroccan and Monroe won’t be rushing to order her 16th album, ‘Here For It All’.

At an intimate event in central London, where Bizarre was the only press invited, Mariah said: “Sometimes I hold back from playing my songs to my kids as they have their own taste.”

“Roe loves Olivia Rodrigo, and Roc loves Sabrina Carpenter.” But she has given them a preview of the record’s title track, adding, “Here For It All, it really moved me. That was one song I actually played for some people. It’s one of my favourites.”

Mariah, who performed at the royal estate Sandringham, added: “There will probably be more remixes coming.”

The new album is due out on September 26 and comes seven years after the last one, Caution.

Mariah didn’t hit the studio with the idea of making an album at first, and she revealed: “I was working on some new songs, then I was like, ‘OK, I have four songs. That’s cool, what are we going to do?’.”

She added: “Finally, when we got to around six songs, I said, ‘I think we can make this into an album’.”

Rather than sitting on a pile of tracks like some artists do, Mariah said her songs are few and far between, saying, “I really don’t have thousands.”

“I have a good amount of songs, though. I don’t really let anyone listen to them until they are done, that’s kind of the way it works for me.”

As with previous records, Mariah has acted as producer on the new album.

“I always loved vocals, and I didn’t realise that production was what I was doing. Even on my first album, I was doing that. Then, working with different people and friends, I decided to go deeper into it and really start real producing. I listen back to my old music too — I think forward and I listen back.”

Mariah is staying tight-lipped about whether a tour is now on the cards. “I dunno,” she said with a shrug. “We will have to see about that. It is the 16th record. I am happy about that.”

As for her next album, Mariah is already brimming with ideas, adding: “A deep cut record, that could definitely be a possibility.”
