New Absa-Led Initiative Simplifies Property Ownership for Ghanaian Diaspora

Absa Bank Building

For many Ghanaians living abroad, owning property back home is more than a financial investment—it is a cherished aspiration.

Yet, for decades, members of the Ghanaian diaspora have struggled with numerous obstacles, including limited access to credible mortgage products, opaque real estate processes, and fears over fraud and mismanagement.

Recognising these barriers, Absa Bank Ghana Limited has launched a groundbreaking initiative in collaboration with Seso Global and T.A. Braithwaite to make property ownership more accessible and secure for Ghanaians living overseas.

The tri-partite partnership brings together the strengths of three established institutions. Absa Bank Ghana contributes its strong financial foundation and mortgage infrastructure, Seso Global offers a trusted digital property marketplace with verified listings, and T.A. Braithwaite, a specialist insurance brokerage firm, provides robust risk management and insurance solutions tailored to diaspora needs.

According to Charles Addo, Retail Banking Director at Absa Bank Ghana, the initiative is the result of years of listening to the concerns of Ghanaians abroad.

“For many, owning a home in Ghana is a deeply personal goal, but access, trust, and process hurdles often stand in the way. Through this partnership, we are offering mortgages and a comprehensive range of financial services to support that journey.”

Mortgage Financing Made Easier and More Secure

Through this partnership, eligible diaspora clients can access mortgage financing of up to GH¢5,000,000, or as much as 80 percent of a property’s value. In some cases, the financing can even exceed this threshold, depending on the applicant’s income and creditworthiness.

Absa has also introduced a dedicated 24-hour helpdesk to assist diaspora clients across all time zones. This support mechanism ensures clients receive real-time guidance throughout the property acquisition process, from the initial inquiry to loan approval and final purchase.

Additionally, Absa provides a range of tailored financial services, including flexible current and savings accounts, fixed deposit investment options with competitive rates, and insurance packages designed to support dependents’ education and funeral planning. The bank’s Signature and Infinite cards also offer clients access to global travel and lifestyle privileges, reinforcing Absa’s commitment to meet the holistic financial needs of Ghanaians abroad.

Seso Global’s role in the partnership addresses one of the most pressing challenges for the diaspora—finding trustworthy property listings. Its digital marketplace offers diaspora clients access to efficiently vetted real estate options, significantly reducing the risk of fraud and misrepresentation. With the growth of Ghana’s real estate market—especially since the “Year of Return” campaign in 2019—demand for secure and efficient property transactions has skyrocketed.

Kweku Essien, Co-CEO of Seso Global, emphasized the platform’s potential to reshape the real estate experience.

“Seso’s digital property marketplace enables customers to easily source, purchase, and finance efficiently vetted real estate in Ghana. This partnership is a game changer that will accelerate the growth of Ghana’s real estate industry.”

Comprehensive Insurance and Compliance Assurance

T.A. Braithwaite complements the initiative by offering mortgage protection insurance and facilitating regulatory-compliant mortgage origination through its Diaspora Connect App. The firm’s broad network allows it to operate seamlessly across jurisdictions where Ghanaian diaspora communities reside, ensuring end-to-end compliance with local financial service laws.

Des Braithwaite, Director of Africa Diaspora Business at T.A. Braithwaite, remarked, “The Ghanaian diaspora is thriving in several countries. With a stable polity, there is a desire for Ghanaians to procure properties for holiday or retirement in their home country. Our platform ensures a seamless mortgage process that meets all financial and data regulatory compliance in countries of origin.”

The Absa-Seso-Braithwaite partnership is more than a mortgage solution—it is a full-circle ecosystem for diaspora investment. By integrating digital property sourcing, secure banking, and comprehensive insurance cover, the initiative supports every stage of the property acquisition journey, from selection to purchase to protection.

Remote transaction monitoring and simplified application procedures also reduce the need for frequent travel and ensure peace of mind for investors who may be thousands of miles away.
