The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) has officially launched the National Youth Festival 2025 (NNYF2025).

The launch, held in Accra at a vibrant media ceremony, brought together a broad spectrum of stakeholders from across the country and marked the beginning of a youth-driven celebration designed to inspire, educate, and empower young people across all 16 regions.

With an unprecedented 218 events scheduled to take place across 98 tertiary campuses nationwide, the NNYF2025 promises to be more than a celebration—it is a declaration of purpose, unity, and innovation, driven by the dynamism of Ghana’s youth.

The festival is designed to touch every corner of the nation, promoting inclusivity and reflecting the diverse aspirations of Ghanaian students.

The launch event saw enthusiastic participation from student leaders representing tertiary institutions across Ghana.

Also present were development partners, government agency representatives, and members of the media. Their presence signified the deep-rooted institutional support for this national initiative.

Among the dignitaries present were Mr. Kojo Danquah, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Student Loan Trust Fund (SLTF); Dr. Patrick Essien, Director for Ports at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA); and Hon. Osman Ayariga, Chief Executive Officer of the National Youth Authority (NYA), who officially launched the festival.

In his remarks, Hon. Ayariga pledged the NYA’s full backing for NNYF2025 and commended NUGS for its commitment to youth-led progress.

Visionary Roadmap

Addressing the gathering, NUGS President H.E. Daniel Korley Botchway outlined a bold and visionary roadmap for the festival.

According to him, NNYF2025 is not just a series of events, but a national movement dedicated to transforming the prospects of young people through practical engagement in key areas such as education, climate action, entrepreneurship, and civic leadership.

“This festival is a symbol of unity, progress, and innovation. We are not only investing in the future—we are celebrating it in every region, every campus, and every community.”

He unveiled a rich collection of thematic programs scheduled to run as part of the festival. These include:

A Tree for Every Student initiative will encourage environmental stewardship and afforestation on school campuses, while Paint the Future is a dynamic project that will adorn elementary schools with murals and instructive illustrations.

Additionally, there is a Career and Education Fair that helps students make well-informed and meaningful career decisions, as well as the NUGS Sports Fiesta, which is an interschool athletic competition that promotes physical fitness and teamwork.

Other events include the National Students Business Challenge, an entrepreneurial competition that enables students to start and pitch business ideas, and the NUGS Literafest, a platform to improve literacy and creative writing among basic school students.

Finally, there is the Climate Action Campaign, which aims to raise youth awareness of climate issues and promote green living; the Innovation and Tech Expo, which will feature student-led startups and technological innovations; and the Global Youth Dialogue, which serves as a platform for international youth exchange, civic engagement, and leadership development.

Inclusive Participation

These events have been strategically planned to engage students at multiple levels and ensure regional balance in participation.

From June 1 to July 27, 2025, regional events will take place across all 16 regions, culminating in a grand National Convocation in Accra from July 28 to August 3. The final event is expected to attract national and international dignitaries and will serve as a capstone to months of impactful youth programming.

NNYF2025’s integrated and comprehensive approach to youth development is what makes it unique. The festival integrates education, creativity, activism, and empowerment into a long-lasting national experience rather than restricting itself to entertainment or ceremonial events.

It shows how NUGS has strategically shifted from being merely a student organization to one that shapes national development through programming and policies that are geared toward young people.

There is widespread agreement on the significance of youth empowerment for Ghana’s future, as evidenced by the dedication of important national organizations like the NYA, EPA, and SLTF.

Their collaboration and presence support NUGS’ mission to train Ghanaian youth to become leaders who are focused on finding solutions in their fields.

In addition to providing a forum for expression and acknowledgement, NNYF2025 offers students all throughout Ghana the chance to influence change and the country’s development story.

It is impossible to exaggerate the significance of youth-centred programming in a nation where over 60% of the population is under 30.

NNYF2025 presents Ghana’s youth as active creators of their own future—a generation prepared to lead, innovate, and change, rather than as passive consumers of policies.
