The General Overseer of Alabaster International Ministries, Prophet Kofi Oduro, has expressed disapproval over the actions of some members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) who stormed the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) in support of the Ashanti Regional Chairman, Chairman Wontumi, demanding his release.

During a sermon on Sunday, Prophet Kofi Oduro cautioned Ghanaians against engaging in blind partisan politics.

He emphasized that such conduct does not advance the country’s growth or development.

“Stop your nonsense. Where is the rule of law? So, assuming the police arrest me, my church members would storm the police station to protest for my release, while they don’t know what I have done. Let this foolish mindset of this nation disappear.

“Why are you there with blind loyalty?… Stop your nonsense. You want to use the noise to cover the truth. How can you build your nation with just an attitude?”

Prophet Kofi Oduro

The prophet said such practice is not the same in Europe, while sharing his experience during his recent trip to Amsterdam.

“When we go to Europe, there are places where the driving limit is 30km. And you can’t go more than that. If you decide to go against it, you will pay a fine… We should stop that nonsense attitude where people in power can call for the release of a relative when they are arrested.”

The man of God’s comments come on the heels of some NPP bigwigs and supporters amassing at the head office of the Economic and Organized Crime Office following the arrest of their Ashanti Regional Chairman.

Ghanaians reacted to Prophet Kofi Oduro’s comment.

“If the NDC states clearly what he has done, nobody would have gathered there, sir. The NDC was vague, and even now we still don’t know why he was picked up .. I don’t agree with you, sir…the law states innocent until proven guilty, please.”

@GhanaSocialUni

“Bro, exactly, do you know what happened? Then you will gather at EOCO to free Wontumi. Let’s be serious for once in this country.”

@akabayire

“Pastor, sometimes take your time. They never said Wontumi should not be prosecuted. They were protesting against the way he was being handled.”

@asare1988

“Assuming they don’t know what Wontumi did. Whose duty is it to update the public on the offences of Wontumi? The Amsterdam you’re using as an example would send you a ticket and explain your offence to you. As you’re shouting at the top of your voice, do you know Wontumi’s charges?”

@ExpressYourMin1

“Pastors, chiefs all openly showing they are politicians, and NDC is a very sad distin. They go mute on NDC wrongs and spearhead the shouting when it’s NPP.”

Maurice Ampaw Slams Wontumi’s Bail

Maurice Ampaw Slams Wontumi's Bail
Lawyer Maurice Ampaw

Outspoken legal practitioner, Lawyer Maurice Ampaw, launched a scathing attack on the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), describing the bail conditions imposed on Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, as outrageous and politically motivated.

Speaking in a recent media interview, Ampaw expressed frustration over the GH¢50 million bail set by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), following Wontumi’s arrest and detention.

According to the New Patriotic Party (NPP), the conditions are not only excessive but deliberately designed to frustrate their Ashanti Regional Chairman.

Meanwhile, the embattled Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) applied to the High Court to vary the GH¢50 million bail granted him by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).

His legal team have described the bail which is to be justified by two sureties with landed property, as excessive and is seeking the court to substantially reduce it to a “reasonable” figure and terms. The motion, scheduled for June 3, 2025.

Chairman Wontumi, a key figure in the ruling NPP, was recently arrested by EOCO under undisclosed charges. The incident has triggered heated political commentary, with the NPP accusing EOCO and the current administration of weaponising state institutions against political opponents.

Ampaw, known for his pro-NPP stance, accused the NDC of setting a dangerous precedent, warning that political power is not permanent.
