Lil Win’s Team Responds to Backlash on New Ibrahim Traoré Movie

Lil Win and Ibrahim Traoré

Kwadwo Nkansah Lil Win’s upcoming film project, “Ibrahim Traoré – The Last African Hero,” Wezzy Empire Film Productions has issued a formal statement addressing both the praise and criticism surrounding the movie.

The film, which tackles a significant historical figure, has sparked intense discussion across social and mainstream media.

While some have questioned Lil Win’s suitability for portraying such a narrative due to his background in comedy, the production team is standing firmly behind the project.

In a press release, publicist Bossu Kule emphasized that Lil Win’s comedic career does not disqualify him from delivering serious, impactful stories. “Comedy is the vessel through which this story can be told and understood by the masses,” Kule noted.

The statement urges audiences to appreciate diverse storytelling mediums—be it music, poetry, or film—as valid forms to educate, uplift, and raise awareness.

Addressing concerns voiced by critics including Nana Ziega, who argued that Lil Win should focus solely on Ghanaian stories and avoid labeling Ibrahim Traoré a terrorist, the release clarified that historical narratives—whether controversial or heroic—must be told from various perspectives.

It drew parallels to globally acclaimed films such as Hotel Rwanda and Jojo Rabbit, which have explored difficult topics without glorification but rather to foster dialogue and understanding.

“We support the idea that African stories deserve to be told with courage, authenticity, and pride—by Africans themselves,” the statement said. It highlighted that Lil Win’s role is not to glorify but to own the narrative through a local lens, reflecting on history in a way that resonates with African audiences.

Furthermore, the production company reminded critics that Lil Win is an entertainer, not a military figure, drawing a comparison to actors like Sacha Baron Cohen and Taika Waititi who have portrayed controversial figures through satire and film to spark conversation.

As the film’s release approaches, Wezzy Empire encourages the public to withhold judgment until viewing the full project, inviting everyone to understand the message and intentions behind the story. “Ibrahim Traoré’s story, whether you agree with him or not, is currently shaping history in Africa,” the statement concluded.

The award-winning Kumawood actor blasted gospel musician Evangelist Diana Asamoah over her criticisms of his pastor, Stephen Adom Kyei-Duah.

In a video, the comic actor was spotted with a film crew as they prepared to shoot a new film on set. He warned the ‘Anopa Wim’ hitmaker against advising anyone concerning the men of God they should follow.

He claimed that the youth were interested in listening to individuals who were wise and honest and not individuals who did not live up to that standard.

“God made you an evangelist, but you have stopped and become a politician who campaigns and hosts radio shows. I am telling you to resume preaching. Your party even lost the elections. She is to blame for the NPP’s defeat. She knows she was the one who made them totally lose the elections. She would campaign for them and later tell people to vote against them.NPP had never lost an election with only 38 percent until Diana Asamoah came.”

Lil Win

Lil Win claimed that the NPP would continue to lose elections if they failed to sack Diana Asamoah from the party for her to return to her evangelism work.

He recounted his relationship with the musician, stating that he considered her his mother and had accompanied her to visit some high-profile personalities in the past.

Lil Win called out Diana Asamoah over her past feud with Cecilia Marfo and advised her to stop being hateful and envious of others.

The Kumawood actor’s remarks come amid Evangelist Diana Asamoah’s recent criticisms of Stephen Adom Kyei-Duah over some of his practices in his Believers Worship Centre church.

Some netizens reacted to Lil Win blasting Diana Asamoah.

“You see, Ghana. Diana Asamoah is talking as a Christian, teaching the truth in the Bible, not in the name of the NPP. Ghana is funny.”
