The direct family of the late highlife legend Charles Kwadwo Fosuh, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, has filed an injunction against funeral arrangements announced for him.
The direct family comprising Lumba’s first (legal) wife Akosua Serwah Fosuh and their children, claim the funeral arrangements were made without their consent.
In a press statement issued on Thursday, 9th October 2025, the direct family, represented by Mrs. Akosua Serwah Fosuh, described the public announcement of the musician’s funeral plans as “deeply distressing”, saying it was first heard of through social media.
According to them, Abusuapanyin Kofi Wusu and a supposed funeral committee had “acted in their own interests” by fixing a funeral date for 6th December 2025 without consulting the deceased’s immediate family.
The statement said the move showed “a complete lack of respect” for Mrs. Fosuh, who is still mourning her husband and making arrangements to travel to Ghana for the funeral.
The release also noted that since Daddy Lumba’s passing on 26th July 2025 in Accra, there had been “a continuous and deliberate effort to marginalise” his legal wife in funeral discussions. The family further revealed that the cause of death remains under investigation.
They reminded the public that the late musician was legally married to Mrs. Akosua Serwah Fosuh on 23rd December 2004 in Bornheim, Germany, and that under German law, bigamy is strictly prohibited. Citing Section 1306 of the German Civil Code (Bürgerliches Gesetzbuch), the family said: “A marriage may not be entered into if one of the persons is already married,” stressing that any second marriage under such circumstances is “legally void.”
The family said they had therefore taken legal steps to halt all funeral and burial activities “until proper dialogue and consensus are achieved.”
“To all Lumba fans and music lovers across the world we deeply appreciate your love, loyalty, and patience during this difficult time,” the statement read. “We kindly ask you to disregard any unofficial announcements regarding funeral arrangements.”
It added that a “respectful and dignified farewell” will eventually be given to the late musician, befitting his legacy and the love he shared with millions through his music.
Daddy Lumba’s Abusuapanin Confirms Marriage Legitimacy
Mr Kofi Owusu Fosu, the head of Daddy Lumba’s family, has addressed the controversy surrounding the legitimacy of the late highlife musician’s marriage to his second wife, Priscilla Ofori Atta, popularly known as Odo Broni.
Months after the late music icon’s demise at the age of 60, rumours of an internal dispute between his two widows, Akosua Serwaa and Odo Broni, have been rife.
Despite contrary public claims from Daddy Lumba’s manager, Roman Fada, the rumours have persisted, with many Ghanaian netizens supporting the camps of both wives.
The alleged feud between Akosua Serwaa and Odo Broni has also created speculations about the late highlife musician’s marriage to his second wife.
Daddy Lumba’s family head confirmed that Odo Broni was legally married to the late musician following his own investigations.
Collins Amankwah, the former Manhyia North constituency MP and the family’s spokesperson, noted that the date was chosen after consultations with the government and Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
He also announced some of the activities that would take place during the funeral service.
He also responded to the backlash he received from some Ghanaians after he initially doubted the legitimacy of the marriage in the aftermath of Daddy Lumba’s demise.
“I had to ask around and verify. After my investigations, I was able to confirm that he (Daddy Lumba) had gotten married to her (Odo Broni). I don’t understand Ghanaians. Because I said I was going to do my own investigations, they started insulting me, but God knows whether the things we say are truthful or lies or whether we have been bribed. What will you gain from taking money from someone to speak ill about your family?”

Mr Owusu also noted that Akosua Serwaa and Odo Broni would both perform the widowhood rites for the late Daddy Lumba before his eventual burial.
He also cautioned some Ghanaian media platforms, whom he accused of peddling falsehoods about the late musician’s family and inciting people to insult them.
Daddy Lumba to be Buried in Kumasi
The funeral planning committee for the late Highlife legend Daddy Lumba officially announced that his body will be transported via road from Accra to his hometown in Kumasi.
This decision follows the recent announcement of his final funeral date set for December 6, 2025, at the iconic Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
Collins Owusu Amankwah, the head of the planning committee, initially indicated that the original plan was to airlift Daddy Lumba’s remains to Kumasi.
However, after thoughtful discussions with the family and the funeral committee, they reached a consensus to opt for a road procession instead. “Our primary goal was to ensure that as many people as possible could participate in the farewell,” Amankwah explained.
“By transporting the body by road, we can create a convoy that traverses major towns along the route, allowing fans and loved ones to come out and pay their last respects.”

The road procession has been intentionally designed to reach a broader audience beyond the residents of Kumasi, enabling communities along the route to participate in honouring the legendary musician. “Residents in towns such as Suhum, Konongo, Ejisu, and Kumasi Akropong will have the chance to witness the convoy and pay tribute as it passes by,” he added.
His death has resonated deeply with fans across Ghana and sparked an outpouring of grief, with condolences flowing in from various public figures, including current and former presidents.
In a heartfelt tribute to his legacy, the Creative Arts Agency, in collaboration with the Fosu family, organised a national candlelight vigil at Independence Square on August 2, 2025, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
This gathering brought together countless supporters, united in their remembrance of Daddy Lumba’s influential career and the impact he had on the Ghanaian music scene.
