The National Information Technology Agency (NITA) has held a strategic meeting with a high-level delegation from the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), led by Director General Prof. Amin Alhassan, in a move aimed at strengthening institutional collaboration through the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

The courtesy call, which took place at NITA’s office in Accra, marked a significant step in aligning two key state agencies toward a “unified digital vision for Ghana.”

“During the visit – GBC and NITA explored potential areas of partnership aimed at using Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to transform public service broadcasting and drive digital innovation in Ghana”

NITA

According to the NITA, the purpose of the engagement was to explore areas of mutual interest that would accelerate digital transformation across the country, particularly through public service broadcasting. The discussions focused on ICT infrastructure, systems support, media-driven public awareness, and the development of a more cohesive national IT ecosystem.

The growing importance of technology in the delivery of media services was emphasized, highlighting GBC’s interest in incorporating ICT tools to enhance the efficiency and quality of public broadcasting – to leverage its nationwide platforms in promoting the agency’s work.

Welcoming the delegation, NITA’s Acting Director General, Ing. Dr. Kevor Mark-Oliver, described the visit as timely and essential to NITA’s broader mission of building robust partnerships with public sector stakeholders.

He further expressed the agency’s commitment to providing technical expertise, training opportunities, and co-developing broadcasting solutions aligned with national ICT goals.

The visit also served as a platform to extend a formal invitation to GBC to participate in NITA’s upcoming ICT Week Celebration scheduled for August. “A major national event aimed at raising awareness on digital inclusion and innovation”

This event is designed to promote digital inclusion and innovation, bringing together institutions, innovators, and the public to engage in activities that spotlight the transformative power of technology in governance, education, and communication.

The partnership being forged between NITA and GBC is expected to offer a model for future collaborations across the state apparatus, combining media influence with technological expertise to reach and empower more citizens.

It also speaks to the government’s ongoing emphasis on digital governance as a pillar of public sector reform and economic growth. This alignment of goals between Ghana’s ICT policy agency and its state broadcaster reflects a deeper commitment to delivering citizen-focused services through modern infrastructure.

With GBC’s nationwide presence and NITA’s technical capacity, the groundwork is being laid for a long-term collaboration that could reshape the digital communication landscape of the country.

The conversation concluded with mutual expressions of goodwill and determination to formalise the partnership in future working sessions. Both institutions acknowledged that sustained collaboration will be vital in addressing the digital challenges of today while preparing for the evolving demands of tomorrow.

As the nation continues to prioritise technological advancement, institutional synergies such as this one will likely define the next chapter in Ghana’s digital journey. The collaboration between NITA and GBC is not only strategic – it is a necessary step in ensuring that technology and media work hand-in-hand for the benefit of every Ghanaian.
