Minority Demands Reinstatement of Dismissed Bank of Ghana Staff

The Minority in Parliament has mounted a fierce defence of the dismissed employees of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), calling for their immediate reinstatement and urging the affected workers to pursue legal redress.

The group described the terminations as unlawful and vowed to use every democratic means available to reverse them. The Minority stated unequivocally that the dismissals were illegitimate.

“We demand immediate reinstatement. The Bank of Ghana must restore every single dismissed worker to their rightful position without any further delay. The appointments were lawful, their terminations were not”

They emphasized that the workers had been treated unfairly and insisted the Bank had acted without due process.

The leadership of the group turned its attention to the Governor of the central bank, Dr. Johnson Pandit Asiama and demanded accountability for “this heartless abuse of power,” summoning him to answer before Parliament.

“You are not above the law and you will answer to the people,” the group charged, describing the dismissals as part of a broader trend of unchecked authority and disregard for accountability within some of the country’s most powerful institutions under the new government.

The Minority further appealed to state institutions responsible for safeguarding workers’ rights and upholding justice, calling on them to take immediate action to protect the workers and stop the lawlessness.

They noted that these agencies must not sit idly by as constitutional rights are trampled upon. To the dismissed employees, the Minority delivered a clear message: seek legal redress, and rely on the protection of Ghana’s laws.

“Under Article 33 of the constitution, you have the right to seek justice in the courts. We stand ready to support you,” they added, promising unwavering solidarity for the affected workers.

The group further announced its intent to press forward with “unrelenting vigor,” a motion for a full parliamentary enquiry into the dismissals, promising to expose the gross injustice, work tirelessly to reverse the terminations, and hold the government accountable.

The Minority argued that the implications of the dismissals extended far beyond the 100 workers directly affected, warning that failure to act would erode public trust in national institutions.

A Matter of Principle

By presenting the issue as one of national significance and stating that what was at stake was not merely the fate of dismissed workers, but the very foundation of the republic’s democratic values, the group entrenched its position to fight for the victims.

“We must choose between the rule of law and rule by decree. Parliament must stand firm. Institutions must act within the law. Workers must be protected.

“We choose justice – we choose the people. We will fight with every legal, parliamentary, and democratic tool at our disposal until every worker is reinstated, every wrong is righted, and every institution is reminded that it serves the people of Ghana, not the powerful few”

The Minority directed a sharp rebuke at the central bank, accusing it of breaking the law, breaching its constitutional responsibilities, betraying its mandate and wounding the trust of the nation.

“You cannot hide behind secrecy or power. The people of Ghana are watching and you will be held to account,” they warned.

The Bank of Ghana recently terminated the employment of 100 workers recruited in December 2024, citing failure to pass an assessment by its Human Resource and Capacity Development Department after their probation period.

In a final message to the dismissed BoG workers, the Minority pledged continuous support, reminding them they will not be forgotten until their jobs are restored, dignity reclaimed, and futures secured.

They ended with a call to action for all Ghanaians to defend the country’s democracy and demand accountability from the government and state institutions every step of the way.
