Basintale Criticizes NPP’s Poor Strategy In Ablekuma North

NPP demands action from Ghana Police ahead of Akwatia polls

NPP

The NDC has taken a victory lap following its win in the Ablekuma North parliamentary re-run held on July 11, 2025, with Malik Basintale, Deputy Communications Officer of the party, firing a sharp rebuke at the NPP for what he described as a failed, disorganized, and uninspired campaign.

According to Basintale, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) defeat was the natural outcome of a campaign plagued by poor planning and a lack of clear direction.

The CEO of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) accused the opposition party of entering the race unprepared, lacking both a viable strategy and a commitment from its leadership.

Asserting the NPP never stood a real chance, he questioned, “No strategy. No direction. No plan, and you expect to win in Ablekuma North? How?”

The election, which saw National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) Ewurabena Aubynn emerge victorious, has been celebrated within the party as a strong indicator of its growing base in traditionally competitive constituencies.

Basintale criticized the NPP’s approach, citing their absence and disunity as key indicators of their lack of seriousness. He further claimed that senior figures within the NPP abandoned their candidate and constituency.

Basintale also raised the issue of absentee leadership, implying that many prominent NPP figures failed to show up on the day of the election.

“Your party leaders shamefully boycotted, and just when they realised they had prematurely ejaculated, they issued a U-turn and never showed up in reality.”

Malik Basintale

He continued to cast doubt on the leadership of the NPP, stating that the party’s national hierarchy, including the chairman, general secretary, and organizers, were nowhere to be found.

“Your candidate, [Nana Akua Owusu Afriyie], was campaigning on the message of her being a widow, JM wanting a third term, etc. Your armchair executives never showed up on election day. Where was your National Chairman, General Secretary, Organizer, etc.?

“Where was ‘Chairman Buga’, who was shouting all night before? Where was Afenyo-Markin, who is today calling us names? Where were your former appointees and MPs?”

He criticized the party for deflecting blame instead of engaging in honest introspection and addressing its leadership failures.

According to him, the energy being spent on public accusations and warnings about future political battles would be better directed toward evaluating what went wrong and demanding accountability from within.

Drawing a comparison to the NDC’s own experience, Basintale referenced the party’s recovery following its 2016 defeat.

He highlighted how the NDC focused on internal restructuring through unity walks, in-depth analysis of their shortcomings, and reconnecting with the grassroots.

That strategic groundwork, in his view, enabled the party to reposition itself and return stronger in subsequent elections.

Furthermore, Malik Basintale urged NPP foot soldiers to hold their leadership accountable and demand a more serious and strategic direction for the party.

He criticized the emergence of what he described as flashy but ineffective political movements within the NPP, arguing that these efforts lacked substance and were disconnected from the party’s current realities on the ground.

“Instead of learning and picking up from scratch, you are there forming blue, violet, and pink armies at a stage where even the adhesive of your base is weak. Dear NPP footsoldiers, rethink! Ask your leaders questions. Ask them again and again till they provide you with answers.”

Malik Basintale

He warned that without introspection and correction, the NPP risked prolonged irrelevance.

According to him, young supporters must not allow themselves to be misled or pacified by leaders who fail to show up when needed most. “Don’t let the leaders swerve their negligence and laziness,” he said.

Basintale, however, praised the strategy and discipline of the NDC campaign in Ablekuma North, noting that the victory was the result of deliberate and coordinated grassroots mobilization.

“I rode to Ablekuma North to campaign with the 5k men and 3k women. We did it peacefully and won the election smoothly with a well-coordinated plan, vigilance, and resilience.”

Malik Basintale

Basintale concluded his remarks by warmly congratulating Ewurabena Aubynn on her victory in the Ablekuma North parliamentary re-run.

He emphasized that her win was not only a personal achievement but also a testament to the National Democratic Congress’s revitalized grassroots strategy, strong coordination, and growing momentum ahead of future elections.

According to him, the result reflected the party’s ability to effectively mobilize support and execute a focused campaign.
