Dancehall musician Stonebwoy has expressed his intention to run for a Member of Parliament position for the Ashaiman Constituency based on certain conditions.

Stonebwoy spoke about music being his main priority. He mentioned that he would only consider venturing into politics if he were allowed to continue doing music.

The dancehall musician noted that if he were encouraged to do music to make money, he would happily consider the role and make his manifesto known to the people.

“If the Ashaiman people say I can do the job, it is for every four years. I would state my vision and, looking at things, it is Ashaiman I can stand for.”

The ‘Overlord’ hitmaker mentioned that if he was not given the nod to stand as an MP for Ashaiman, he would move to his mother’s hometown, Alakple.

He added that if Alakple does not work out, he would try his father’s hometown, Anloga, a place he was certain he would win the seat if he were to stand as the MP for the constituency.

“When I win, I will liaise with companies and work on projects such as poultry farms, speak to the chiefs at Ashaiman and acquire land. Talk is cheap but we can do it.”

Many people liked Stonebwoy’s answer regarding his stance on standing for an MP for Ashaiman.

His fans talked about his music and how much they would miss his hit songs if he were to quit music and chase his political ambitions.

Others were not pleased with his political ambitions, as they highlighted struggles in acquiring votes in the parliamentary elections.

“Ashaiman we dere for u 🔥🔥🔥.”

Meanwhile, Stonebwoy lamented some mistreatment he had received from the current NDC government after their return to power.

The musician noted that there was favouritism in the government’s decisions to select musicians to perform at their high-profile events and that only some of his colleagues benefited from it.

According to the dancehall musician, the NDC government ignored him in favour of others during a recent launch event.

“Sometimes, we line up the artists in a favouritism way. When the opportunities come, they pass only one side. I saw the government launch a programme the other day. I was available at the time and only got to know about it when the event took place. I called the Minister to remind her that I and other big names who could elevate the event were also around.”

The Burniton Music Group label boss claimed that he was not the only victim of the alleged favouritism and that it was an issue in many countries.

He alleged that only some of his colleagues who had close relationships with prominent officials were being considered for musical performances at government events.

Stonebwoy claimed that the alleged favouritism from government officials leads to individuals facing scrutiny from the public, who question whether they have the country’s interest at heart.

The award-winning Ghanaian dancehall and reggae artist called on Ghanaians to put industry rivalries aside and offer unified support to local musicians.

The internationally acclaimed performer stressed the importance of solidarity within the creative space. He noted that while disagreements and competition are not unusual in the music industry, they should not stand in the way of national support for Ghanaian talent.

Citing examples from other countries, particularly Nigeria, the “Into The Future” hitmaker highlighted how their music industry continues to thrive despite internal differences among artists.

He attributed that success to a culture of patriotism, strong fan loyalty, and unwavering public support for homegrown talent.

Stonebwoy also took the opportunity to advise fans, bloggers, and media personalities to refrain from fueling division by taking sides in artist disputes. According to him, such conduct undermines the collective growth of the industry and distracts from the bigger picture.

Currently on a world tour promoting his 5th Dimension album, Stonebwoy continues to receive international recognition.

He concluded his remarks with a passionate appeal for Ghanaians to adopt a more united and supportive approach toward the creative arts, urging the public to “be more intentional” in their support for local musicians.
