Hon. Eric Edem Agbana, Member of Parliament (MP) for Ketu North, has disclosed his participation in a high-level delegation from Ghana’s Ministry of Education currently on a working visit to Japan.

The mission, he said, aims to explore Japan’s globally respected educational ecosystem, focusing particularly on STEM, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), and Special Needs Education.

“I am honoured to be part of a high-powered delegation from Ghana’s Ministry of Education currently on a working visit to Japan. This strategic mission is focused on engaging key stakeholders in education and gaining valuable insights into Japan’s renowned educational system”

The visit includes several top officials from Ghana’s education sector and is geared toward establishing partnerships to drive reform at home. Hon. Agbana revealed that the delegation is led by Minister of Education Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, who has already concluded key agreements with Japanese counterparts.

According to Hon. Agbana, the Education Minister signed a number of landmark partnership agreements with both the Government of Japan and “Life is Tech,” a prominent education technology start-up.

“This collaboration will see Life is Tech commence pilot operations in Ghana by September, with the goal of expanding digital literacy access to millions of students across all levels of our educational system”

He noted that the entire delegation was aligned behind this ambitious target and had been engaging key stakeholders to gather insights from Japan’s world-class education systems.

Key Government Delegates

The delegation includes several top-level officials, whose combined expertise is central to the success of the mission.

These include Mrs. Mamle Andrews, Chief Director of the Ministry of Education; Prof. Oboubisah Bekoe, Director-General of the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA); and Mr. Inusah, Head of Policy Planning.

Hon. Agbana acknowledged their contributions and emphasised their role in shaping the educational reforms Ghana is pursuing. “Each of them brings immense expertise to this national assignment,” he noted, reinforcing the technical strength behind the mission.

The MP also praised Ghana’s Ambassador to Japan, H.E. Mrs. Genevieve Edna Apaloo, and her diplomatic team for their essential role in making the mission successful.

Their logistical support and coordination have, according to Hon. Agbana, facilitated productive engagements with Japanese institutions and government agencies. He said the ambassador and her team “have been excellent in hosting us and have played a vital role.”

President Mahama’s Vision

As a sitting member of Parliament’s Select Committee on Education, Hon. Agbana used the opportunity to reaffirm his support for President John Dramani Mahama’s education reforms.

He described the ongoing international engagements as part of broader efforts by the current government to “lay strong foundations,” for educational transformation in Ghana. “I am encouraged – these partnerships are foundational to the bold reforms we envision,” he asserted.

Hon. Agbana concluded by expressing renewed commitment to leveraging the knowledge and innovation acquired during the Japan mission.

“We are inspired, and even more committed, to carrying forward the knowledge, innovation, and partnerships we are building here to shape the future of education in Ghana”
