A devastating fire broke out at the Accra Tourist Information Centre in the early hours of Monday, August 4, 2025, affecting several businesses, including Rockz Waakye, the well-known food outlet run by legendary Ghanaian hiplife pioneer Reggie Rockstone.
The facility, located directly opposite Afrikiko, is a popular hub for food vendors, small businesses, and cultural events.
The incident reportedly started at approximately 1:00 a.m. and rapidly spread through portions of the premises, causing extensive damage before being brought under control.
Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) arrived at the scene shortly after the outbreak and worked to contain the flames. Thankfully, there were no injuries or loss of life.
Rockstone’s eatery, Rockz Waakye, which is situated on the same grounds as the tourist center, was among the affected units. The fire, though destructive, did not result in any casualties, a fact the veteran rapper was quick to highlight in his public response.
Following the fire, Reggie Rockstone took to social media to share a video message, expressing his appreciation for the overwhelming support he has received from fans, friends, and the general public.

He acknowledged the extensive damage to the business but emphasized that human lives were spared, which is what matters most.
Reggie Rockstone
“We would like to begin by thanking all the love that’s being shown. I mean, it’s been amazing, people coming from everywhere, far and wide to come and show love. Yes, there has been a fire, a pretty devastating fire. The good news is that no human being was harmed.
Material stuff we don’t take with us when we check out, so we give praise to God for this. As far as the damage, pretty heavy, but we would like to take this time now to thank the Ghana Fire Service.”
Rockstone Defends Fire Service Amid Criticism
The incident has drawn significant public attention, not only because of the location and the celebrity status of the business owner but also due to public perception about the proximity of the nearest GNFS station to the site of the blaze.
Many questioned whether an earlier response could have reduced the extent of the destruction. However, Rockstone chose to focus on the positives and commended the GNFS for their work.

“I know they’re going to catch some flakes because they are so close to us in proximity… but they did what they had to do, and they put it out. We thank the Ghana Fire Service. Let’s not point fingers. The good news is no human being was harmed. We give praise to God,”
Although the actual cause of the fire has not been officially established, some eyewitnesses suggested that it may have originated in the kitchen area of Rockz Waakye.

The GNFS is yet to release an official statement confirming the source of the blaze. Meanwhile, Reggie Rockstone hinted at some challenges with prank calls to emergency services during the fire, which could have potentially delayed timely intervention.
While operations at Rockz Waakye have been temporarily suspended, Rockstone assured its loyal customers and supporters that the business will bounce back once an assessment is completed and restoration plans are put in place. “Today, no waakye but we’re still here. We’ll be back very soon,” he noted with regret.
His statement offered a tone of resilience and hope, reinforcing his determination to restore operations despite the setback. Many social media users have applauded his positive attitude and calm demeanor during this difficult time.
Blaze Disrupts Business At Accra Tourist Centre
The Accra Tourist Information Centre serves as a key location for promoting Ghanaian culture and providing a platform for entrepreneurs, particularly those in the food and hospitality sectors.
The fire has undoubtedly impacted multiple businesses housed within the center, some of whom have lost valuable inventory and equipment.
Reggie Rockstone extended his thoughts and encouragement to fellow vendors and business owners who also suffered losses due to the incident.

His words carried a message of solidarity and gratitude, encouraging others to remain hopeful and thankful for the preservation of life.
The Ghana National Fire Service is expected to continue its investigations to determine the definitive cause of the fire. Preliminary inspections are ongoing, and affected areas have been secured as part of the investigative process.
For now, the incident serves as a sobering reminder of the importance of fire safety and preparedness, particularly in business centers that house cooking operations and high-voltage equipment. Despite the setback, Rockstone’s calm, composed response has inspired many, showing that strength and gratitude can endure even in the face of loss.
