A coalition of more than 490 Youth Organisers of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), comprising substantive and deputy youth leaders from constituencies across the country, has declared firm and unreserved support for former Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia ahead of the party’s presidential primary slated for January 2026.
The endorsement was formalised during a strategic meeting, where delegates unanimously voiced confidence in Dr Bawumia’s “exceptional leadership, proven track record, and clear vision for Ghana’s future.”
The gathering, described by organisers as highly unified and forward-looking, marked a significant moment in the early mobilisation efforts for the former vice-president’s bid to lead the party into the 2028 general elections.
In a communique issued after the meeting, the coalition lauded Dr Bawumia for what they termed his “unwavering dedication to national development, digital transformation, sound economic reforms, and his steadfast commitment to empowering Ghanaian youth.”
They highlighted his influence in advancing policies that, in their view, have tangibly improved the lives of citizens, particularly in areas of technology, governance efficiency, and economic modernisation.
“Dr Bawumia’s innovative policies and forward-looking style of governance make him the right leader to guide Ghana beyond 2028,” the coalition remarked. For the group, his tenure as vice-president exemplified a combination of visionary leadership and practical solutions that they believe will be crucial for Ghana’s future progress.

As a show of solidarity, the coalition announced that it would mobilize resources to collect Dr. Bawumia’s nomination forms on Wednesday, August 13, at 9:00 a.m. They said this would serve not just as a symbolic gesture but as a rallying point to demonstrate the scale of grassroots enthusiasm behind his candidacy.
“Our mission is to energise the youth base across the country, ensuring a strong and vibrant grassroots movement in the run-up to the elections”.

Commitment to Mobilization
The coalition expressed its intention to play an active role in political mobilisation at the constituency and polling station levels, arguing that the youth wing’s active engagement would be decisive in shaping electoral outcomes.
Central to their endorsement was the conviction that Dr Bawumia embodies a leadership style that prioritises inclusivity, resilience, and economic opportunity.
“We are convinced that Dr Bawumia has the ability to build an inclusive, resilient, and prosperous Ghana. This is not merely a political endorsement — it is a solemn commitment to shaping a better future for the next generation”.

The group’s call extended beyond party lines. They urged all well-meaning Ghanaians, particularly the youth, to rally behind Dr Bawumia in his continued quest for economic resilience, job creation, and national progress.

Their message framed the endorsement as a contribution to a broader national conversation on leadership, development, and the role of young people in political decision-making.
The statement concluded by affirming that the decision to back Dr Bawumia was not an isolated move but one made “with the blessings of our Regional Youth Organisers and the majority of polling station youth leaders across the country.”
This, they said, reflects a broad and coordinated consensus within the party’s youth structures. Such endorsements are a critical factor in NPP primaries, where the strength of constituency-level organisation often determines momentum.
Youth organisers, by virtue of their reach at the grassroots level, play a pivotal role in mobilising supporters, coordinating campaign activities, and sustaining enthusiasm.
The coalition’s early declaration of support is therefore expected to bolster Dr Bawumia’s position as a frontrunner in the race to succeed the current party leadership.
The former vice-president, who served from 2017 to 2025, has been widely recognised for his advocacy of digital solutions in governance, from mobile interoperability and e-payment systems to the digitisation of public services.

He has also been a central figure in economic policies and digitization, championing reforms aimed at fiscal stability, private sector growth, and efficient service delivery. Supporters argue that these credentials uniquely position him to navigate Ghana through emerging economic and technological challenges in the coming decade.
With the NPP’s presidential primary still several months away, the coalition’s declaration adds a new layer of energy to what is expected to be a competitive race.
While other potential contenders have already declared their intentions, Dr Bawumia’s campaign appears to be consolidating early support from strategic party structures. Whether this early momentum will translate into victory remains to be seen on the day of the opposition party’s primaries.
