On Friday, August 15, the rapper dropped her latest single, “Imaginary Playerz.”

The new song, which will be on her upcoming album, ‘Am I the Drama?’, samples Jay-Z’s song of the same name from his 1997 album, ‘In My Lifetime’, Vol. 1.

The release of the single was accompanied by a music video, which shows Cardi living a life of luxury, illustrating the grandiose lifestyle she’s become accustomed to.

The rapper shared a glam-filled music video for the track, featuring Cardi on a private jet and sailing on a yacht.

The lyrics see Cardi talking herself up: “My flop and your flop is not the same/ If you did my numbers, y’all would pop champagne/ If I did your numbers, I would hop out a plane.”

“I was so happy because you guys understand, the song is kinda long… This song is like a staple for me, and I had to get it approved by the one and only,” she said in an X Space earlier this week, referring to Jay-Z and his own “Imaginary Player” song. “It’s a very hip-hop record and I hope you guys enjoy it.”

Earlier this week, Cardi B expressed her worry that Taylor Swift might release her album the same day as the single, but once Swift shared the Oct. 3 release date for ‘The Life of a Showgirl’, Cardi shared some memes expressing her relief that they wouldn’t coincide.

‘Am I The Drama?’ is set to be 23 tracks long and will include recent single “Outside” as Track 14, as well as 2021’s “Up,” and the 2020 Megan Thee Stallion collab, “Wap,” at the end of the album.

She also shared a new album cover variant for her fans. The new record is her follow-up to her Grammy-winning debut album Invasion of Privacy in 2018.

Cardi also dropped a trailer for the album, showing her inside a house as crows swarm and attack her mansion. She tries to make her escape, only for an evil version of herself to appear on a classic car, now in control of the birds.

Cardi B spoke to Rolling Stone last year about finalizing the album. “I’m a different person every single day,” she said at the time.

Cardi B broke her silence after growing increasingly frustrated with the relentless wave of hate flooding social media, targeting celebrities.

During a recent X Spaces session, the rapper addressed the growing negativity, specifically the online criticism aimed at South African singer-songwriter Tyla.

“Look at Tyla,” the ‘Up’ songstress began, highlighting how exhausting it is to live under constant public scrutiny in the digital age. “People have been dragging the sh** out of Tyla, and it’s like, the girl doesn’t even f***ing address or talk about anything.”

The 32-year-old Grammy winner didn’t hold back as she called out the toxic culture of tearing down celebrities.

She argued that the public only embraces stars when they stay silent, saying, “They beat your energy and they beat your confidence — they beat you to the f***ing ground.”

The ‘Drip’ singer went on to share how draining it is to constantly see hateful content online, especially when it’s unclear where the negativity even comes from.

“Every single time I scroll down on my TikTok, there’s a video of her, and people are talking sh**. And it’s like, goddamn, what do you want her to f***ing do? cut her f***ing veins? Like, enough. Enough. I really think that’s what y’all be wanting.”

For the unversed, the backlash against the ‘On and On’ singer reportedly dates back to a resurfaced 2020 TikTok in which she described herself as a “Coloured South African.”

The criticism intensified further when she chose not to address questions about her ethnicity during an interview.
