Ghana will host Africa Oil Week 2025 in Accra from September 15–18, with Energy Minister John Jinapor calling for Africa to “take charge of its energy future.”

The event will gather ministers, oil companies, and investors to shape upstream investment and energy transition strategies.

The event, which will bring together Energy Ministers, National Oil Companies (NOCs), regulators, and global investors, is expected to chart a new course for Africa’s upstream energy sector.

As the host nation, Ghana is expected to use the platform to showcase its upstream ambitions. A dedicated National Showcase will be presented by the government, outlining a new upstream strategy centered on competitive regulations, investor incentives, and a renewed focus on exploration.

The presentation will also unveil exclusive geological data from the Keta and Voltaian basins, opening new frontiers for international oil companies eager to explore Ghana’s untapped resources.

Officials are also expected to announce ambitious production targets, seeking to raise output significantly from the current 120,000 to 130,000 barrels per day. This will cement Ghana’s drive to become a leading hub for upstream investment in West Africa.

One of the highlights of AOW 2025 will be the 7th APPO NOC CEO Meeting, where the heads of Africa’s National Oil Companies will gather in Accra.

Organized in partnership with the African Petroleum Producers Organization (APPO) and Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), the meeting will focus on strengthening collaboration on licensing rounds, improving energy security, and advancing regional partnerships.

Edward Bawa, Chief Executive Officer of GNPC, underscored Ghana’s leadership role in the continental conversation.

“Minister Jinapor’s leadership has been instrumental in positioning Ghana as a key voice in Africa’s energy transition.

“We are honoured to welcome our peers from across the continent and the global industry to Accra. This is a defining moment for Ghana and for Africa’s upstream future.”

The event organizers have confirmed record-breaking interest from governments, investors, and service providers for the 2025 edition, reflecting the increasing importance of Africa in the global energy mix.

Paul Sinclair, CEO of AOW: Energy, credited Ghana’s proactive approach for the surge in momentum.

“We’re witnessing unprecedented interest in AOW 2025, thanks in no small part to the commitment of Minister Jinapor and the Government of Ghana.

“Africa is entering a new chapter of upstream growth, and Ghana is playing a central role in shaping that future.”

With global energy markets in flux, the discussions at AOW 2025 will be pivotal in balancing Africa’s ambition to scale up production with the growing call for climate-conscious policies.

Since its inception, Africa Oil Week has established itself as the premier platform for governments, oil companies, and investors to connect, negotiate deals, and shape the continent’s upstream future.

The 2025 edition will feature ministerial summits, investor forums, technical sessions, and exclusive networking opportunities designed to facilitate high-level partnerships.

Organizers say the event will highlight how African countries can attract capital while embracing clean technologies and preparing for a decarbonized future.

For Ghana, the event represents both an opportunity and a responsibility: the chance to lead Africa’s upstream agenda while ensuring that local aspirations align with continental and global priorities.

Hosting Africa Oil Week provides Ghana with a unique chance to demonstrate its readiness for large-scale investment and long-term industry growth.

The country has already made strides in balancing its traditional oil sector with emerging clean energy initiatives.

The unveiling of its new upstream strategy at AOW 2025 is expected to draw keen interest from international stakeholders looking for stable, investment-friendly jurisdictions in Africa.
