StarHealth Insurance Company Limited, a subsidiary of Star Assurance Group, has officially launched its operations in Ghana, marking a significant milestone after three years of behind-the-scenes growth and service delivery.
Although the company began laying its foundation in June 2022, it is only now stepping fully into the public spotlight with a portfolio of affordable and comprehensive health insurance services.
During its preparatory phase, the private insurer focused on expanding its provider network, upgrading digital systems, and onboarding clients. This strategy ensured that by the time of its public launch, StarHealth had already built a reputation for accessible, seamless, and dependable healthcare coverage.
A Proven Track Record Before Official Launch
Chief Executive of StarHealth Insurance Ghana, Ronald Oppong Adom, emphasized that the company’s journey began well before its formal unveiling.
“While today marks our formal launch, we have been providing accessible, affordable and comprehensive coverage since 2023. During this period, we have created 12,072 healthcare footprints for 1,289 households, across 168 provider locations in excess of GHC7m.”

He added that the company is determined to address challenges that hinder many Ghanaians from accessing private health insurance.
“We are dedicated to breaking down the barriers such as high costs and limited coverage, so that families and businesses can count on dependable care whenever they need it most.”

Unlike many health insurers in the market, StarHealth has introduced unique programs aimed at holistic care. According to Mr. Oppong, “We are currently the only health insurer that offers comprehensive Employee Assistance Program that includes Counselling and Psychological support.”

To reinforce its wellness-driven approach, the company has entered a partnership with SSNIT Sports Emporium, gearing up to launch the StarHealth Stay Healthy Aerobic Campaigns. These initiatives underline the company’s broader mission to integrate preventive and wellness care into its insurance packages.
Board Chairman Reaffirms Customer-Centered Approach
Board Chairman of StarHealth, Mr. Ernest Amartey-Vondee, highlighted the depth of engagement the company has had with the Ghanaian public over the past three years.
“Over the past three years, we have gained invaluable insights into the needs of those we serve. Through collaborations, we have developed innovative healthcare solutions that are more accessible, efficient, and responsive than ever before.”

He also positioned StarHealth not only as an insurer but as a long-term partner in the health journey of its clients.

“It means building a safety net for every Ghanaian. I commend StarHealth for offering affordable, flexible plans to provide timely care for many citizens.”
Dr. Victor Bampoe
He further emphasized the need for partnerships between public and private institutions to address the growing demands of healthcare in Ghana.

A Growing Family of Star Assurance Group
StarHealth’s entry into the market reinforces the legacy of the Star Assurance Group, one of Ghana’s leading insurance conglomerates comprising Star Assurance, StarLife Assurance, StarMicro Insurance, and Star Pensions Trust.
With the official launch, StarHealth is set to expand its reach, leveraging technology and data analytics to enhance service delivery and improve health outcomes. The company has positioned itself as a cost-effective, customer-driven insurer, catering to individuals, SMEs, and corporates.
The launch of StarHealth Insurance marks not just an addition to Ghana’s insurance market but also a bold statement of intent—to make healthcare more accessible, comprehensive, and inclusive. Through innovation, strategic partnerships, and customer-first policies, the insurer is poised to play a significant role in transforming the private healthcare insurance sector.
