National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has urged members of the party to remain united and rally their full support behind President John Dramani Mahama as his government continues to implement promises made to Ghanaians.
Speaking at Abotakyi in the Akuapem North Constituency of the Eastern Region, as part of his regional thank you tour, Mr. Asiedu Nketiah called on members to put aside personal grievances and internal rivalries for the collective good of both the party and the country.
“In what way can we ensure the party is not put to shame? We will be ashamed if we are unable to fulfill our promises. Fortunately, we have a good president who has already begun delivering on those promises”
Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress
The NDC Chairman highlighted what he described as significant gains made under President Mahama’s leadership so far but warned that the long-term goals of the party could only be realized if members remained united and continued to “throw their weight behind him.”
He warned against internal strife and complacency, emphasising that division of any kind could derail the progress being made, undo what has been achieved, and tarnish the party’s reputation. This he added would negatively affect all party stakeholders, from the grassroots to the very top.
In the Asuogyaman Constituency, during another stop of his three-day regional tour, Mr. Asiedu Nketiah addressed frustrations among grassroots members who have yet to be appointed to government positions.
He appealed for calm and patience, assuring them that the Mahama administration would broaden opportunities as it settles. He reminded members that the leadership was committed to “rewarding loyal service,” and integrating all hands into the machinery of governance.
He further reminded party supporters that regardless of the seeming delays and eventual outcomes with regards to their rewards, once the NDC remained in power and continued to serve the people of Ghana, the party and all its loyal members were already winning, albeit indirectly.
“If we fail to do that – then when things go wrong,” he strongly cautioned.

Warning Against NPP’s Example
Using the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) as a cautionary tale, the NDC Chairman warned his party against replicating what he described as destructive infighting among the NPP’s leadership.
“If we do what we want with the positions we have gotten, our party will be divided like the NPP’s. But I know that will never happen. What the NPP is now doing is a contest to hell. The flagbearer aspirants are criticising each other and are enumerating the sins and faults of each other”
Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress
Beyond sharpening his criticisms by describing the ongoing leadership battles within the NPP as harmful to the very survival of the opposition, he called on all to observe how unchecked ambition, poor conflict resolution, and lack of harmony can undo any organisation, even one as great as the NPP.
In his address to the Krobo Constituencies, Mr. Asiedu Nketiah underscored the importance of consolidating the party’s traditional support bases, likening the relationship between the party and its strongholds to a marital commitment.

“Krobo Constituencies are our strongholds: if you have a wife but you don’t pay her visit often, be rest assured another man will take her from you. So we can’t stop coming to you,” he remarked.
The NDC National Chairman’s thank you tour comes at a crucial moment in the early months of President Mahama’s administration, as the party works to maintain unity, reward its grassroots, and keep its focus on delivering its promises to Ghanaians.
