KiDi Declares Polygamy Not His Love Style

KiDi Declares Himself as ‘A Faithful Black Man’

Ghanaian artist, KiDi, popularly known as Dennis Nana Dwamena, has opened up about his outlook on love, saying his approach to relationships is deeply shaped by loyalty, faith, and family values.

The multiple award-winning artist said he lives by the “one-man, one-woman” principle, a belief inspired by the long-lasting marriage of his parents.

“I grew up watching my mum and dad build something beautiful together. They’ve been together for years, and that has shaped how I see love and family.”

KiDi

Polygamy has traditionally been seen as a symbol of wealth, masculinity, or social standing in many African cultures. It was also viewed as a practical solution to issues like inheritance, reproduction, or the need to form alliances between families.

However, as education, urbanization, and women’s rights movements gain ground, these justifications are being challenged. Today’s youth are asking critical questions: Is polygamy still relevant? Is it fair? And most importantly, is it emotionally sustainable?

The “Touch It” hitmaker explained that his stance on monogamy comes from his Christian faith but noted that he does not expect everyone to share the same belief.

“Muslims are allowed to marry more than one; Christians are not, so I cannot say what’s right or wrong for anyone else. What works for one person might not work for another. For me, as a Christian, I believe one man, one woman is right.”

KiDi

He added that the example set by his parents instilled in him a strong appreciation for loyalty, commitment, and partnership, values he hopes to uphold in his own romantic life.

KiDi’s stance is particularly relevant given Ghana’s socio‑cultural landscape, where polygamy has deep roots in tradition and some religious practices. Yet, it is under increasing scrutiny in public discourse, especially among the younger generation and urban populations.

For many, polygamy carries with it concerns over fairness, emotional strain, familial complexity, and economic viability. From the perspective of the Christian faith to which the artist ascribes, monogamy is often viewed as the ideal relationship structure.

KiDi’s statement is more than a comment on his romantic preferences; it is a reflection of evolving values in Ghanaian society where monogamy, faith, personal experience, and individual choice are asserting prominence.

While polygamy remains a valid and legal option in certain contexts, the choice to embrace monogamy as the ‘Adiepena’ singer does is understood as a thoughtful decision grounded in religious conviction, personal belief, and perhaps also a recognition of the emotional and practical demands of intimate relationships.

The Ghanaian Afrobeats star shared an inspiring message on the importance of passion and perseverance in achieving one’s dreams.

The award-winning singer emphasized that challenges and moments of exhaustion are inevitable in life, but passion is what keeps people going.

“There are times you’ll feel tired and broken, but it’s your passion that will keep you moving. If you don’t have passion, you’ll give up and quit. Always keep your eyes on the bigger picture—your vision will give you strength.”

KiDi

Reflecting on his own journey, KiDi recalled how his determination and love for music helped him persevere through tough times.

In 2015, he took a bold step by competing in the MTN Hitmaker talent show, which he eventually won. His victory led to a record deal with Lynx Entertainment, setting the stage for his musical breakthrough.

He gained national attention in 2017 with his self-produced song “Say You Love Me”, followed by a string of hit singles, including “Odo,” which later saw a remix featuring Nigerian stars Davido and Mayorkun, and “Adiepena.”

KiDi’s story, from talent show contestant to one of Ghana’s top Afrobeats sensations, continues to inspire young creatives to pursue their dreams with passion and purpose.
