Hon. Richard Gyan-Mensah, Deputy Energy Minister

Hon. Richard Gyan-Mensah, the Deputy Minister for Energy and Green Transition, has affirmed that the  Dawa Solar Energy Project, when completed will supply affordable and reliable electricity.

The Deputy Minister on behalf of the ministry, delivered a speech during the sod cutting for the multi-purpose Solar Energy Project at the Dawa Industrial Park in the Greater Accra Region.

Hon. Gyan-Mensah described the project as a strategic initiative aimed at driving the country’s industrial growth and green transition agenda.

According to the  deputy minister, this multi-purpose solar energy project, which is located within the Dawa Industrial Zone, is expected to serve as a dedicated clean energy source for green industrial operations, manufacturing, and export-oriented enterprises.

“By integrating renewable power directly into the industrial enclave, we are demonstrating how green energy can catalyze industry growth, job creation, and climate action, the triplets of our energy and grain transition strategy.”

Energy Transition Framework

The Dawa Solar Energy Project is a significant step towards achieving the government’s broader energy transition vision.

As the Deputy Minister emphasized, the project viewed as a panacea to realizing the country’s  long-term  energy pan.

“The Ministry of Energy Administration permits the first in implementing the National Energy Transition Framework. This blueprints guide us towards net zero emission by 2070, while safeguarding energy security and economic growth.”

By leveraging renewable energy sources, the project aligns with Ghana’s ambitious goal of achieving at least 10% renewable energy in the national energy mix in the medium term.

Electricity for Businesses

One of the key highlights of the Dawa Solar Energy Project is its commitment to providing affordable and reliable electricity to businesses operating within the industrial zone.

 As the Hon. Gyan-Mensah hinted, “the Chief Executive announced that anyone who joins the Dawa enclave would receive a 10% reduction in the electricity tariff.“

This incentive is expected to attract more companies to the area, fostering a thriving and sustainable industrial ecosystem.

The Deputy Minister emphasized the project’s potential to drive job creation and shared prosperity.

“When completed, this solar facility will supply affordable and reliable electricity industry, reduce grid stress and contribute significantly to Ghana’s target to achieving at least 10% renewable energy in our national energy mix in a medium time,” he affirmed.

 By integrating renewable energy into the industrial landscape, the Dawa Solar Energy Project aims to create new employment opportunities and support the growth of green industries not just with Dawa environ, but the nation at large.

Collaboration for Successful Implementation

The success of the Dawa Solar Energy Project is the result of a collaborative effort among various stakeholders, as highlighted by the Deputy Minister.

“The collaboration among the SFI and the DAWA industrial zone, the Energy Commission, the electricity company of Ghana, the grid company that is GRIDCo, and our private sector partners exemplifies the multi-stakeholder approach needed to drive our energy transition agenda forward.”

This spirit of cooperation and shared responsibility will be crucial in ensuring the timely and efficient implementation of the project.

As the Hon. Gyan-Mensah emphasised, the sod-cutting ceremony for the Dawa Solar Energy Project represents “the dawn of a new chapter in Ghana’s industrial and energy journey, a chapter powered by innovation, sustainability, and shared prosperity.”

He also called on all stakeholders to work together to ensure the successful completion and expansion of the project, envisioning it as “a beacon of Ghana’s green industrial revolution.”

The Dawa Solar Energy Project stands as a great testament to Ghana’s dedication to embracing renewable energy and sustainable industrial development.
